best motor

whats the best balanced motor.
the biggest # i've seen is the 4.2 perfection, but sumtimes the high #'s r just bs. so whats REALLY the best?

I personally think the best motor for a technicle track would be a 1.6 microb in a 2 speed chassis

I haven't tried them all, but it seems like middle-of-the-road motors tend to be a better balance of speed and torque.

There are always trade-off in how designs will work.
You will generally have to trade something for something else.

For instance with motors, (for the most part) one trades speed for torque and vice-versa. By combining both, you then have to trade something else; In this case, now the motor will probably require much more current to do it's thing, or maybe it's physical size increases beyond what our car will handle.

That's what makes a great design, the ability to do an engineering "balancing act" where all the factors come out as favorably as possible towards your goal.

I only have stock and Zip Zap motors to go by, but my own experiments have bourne this out.

I agree that the type of racing you do will also dictate your optimums, with motors, gearing, and tires.

i have all 6 zz motors, all 3 microsizers, almost all the perfection motors, and a few ones i built myself. out of all of them my favorite it mine. i built it to have massive torque with good top end. i can give u instructions on how 2 build motors if u want.

Anywhos, I like the 4.2 for normal driving, because as fast as it is, you don't need tons of space. The downside is it flips alot. I'd say a 2.6 or a 3.0 would be the way to go-good balance of speed and torque
