But this is not a fad. If all this is true then why are the 1/18th scale rc car manufacturers still in the game? They started out as a "fad". You guys are all one-sided. What about Europe and Asia? They have a LOT of activity in terms of Mini RCs.

we're not talking about asia or europe ... were talking about NA ... who cares whats going on in some country half way around the world ...

1:18th aftermarket companies are still in because 1:18th aren't toys, they're rc cars that people race with .... anything smaller than mini-zs are fads .... because people dont race things this small ....

Just because it is a fad, doesn't mean that it will completely die out all together. Beanie Babies was a fad, and you can still buy and sell those(although I have no idea why one would want to).

Micro RC was a big fad. Right now the market is deciding which direction it wants to go, what companies will be around, and what type of products and developing there will be. Even in the Asian markets there will be an evolving market and it will eventually level off somewhere.

I for one would like the micro rc hobby to land squarely in the local hobby shops. The hobby will have more innovation, accessories, and development there than it would in a Wal-Mart at $4.99 a shot.

Unfortunatly, in my area of the world, the LHSs carry a random sampling of the MS line, along with maybe a Bit Char-A body or motor. Sooo sad. In Targets, Walmarts, Kmarts and the likes, the clones are flying around and there isn't much in the way of accessories. Eventually the retailers will stop selling those things(when the fad dies), and the LHSs will pick up the gap in the market.

I happen to like this "fad" because it's a lot cheaper than 1:18 scale R/Cs. Unfortuately, I think I am going to get a ZZ soon because Tomy does not make any american bodies. And RS doesn't even make any good Fords, so I'll buy a Camaro!

What's up with freak? Is he one of those little boys? You know, the kind that's never got laid, or close to it? Only little jerks like that sit around and worry about causing problems on the internet. I would call him original, but it's actually nothing new. Just another small-minded geak.

Anyways, I was just reading through the thread, and I wanted to put my two cents in. I live in Asia and I'll just let you all know. It was a fad and it's pretty much dead. I've seen the same cars on the shelf for the last year. Nobody touches them, and nobody puts more on the shelf. They still have them here and there, but not at all like before.

But remember, this is a good thing, because while I do see them disapear from the toy stores, I am noticing them pop up in hobby stores more often. Tomy is a "toy" company that makes so much money on the market, it doesn't really need to worry about the clones taking over a dead fad. It's not worth their manpower, because they can just catch the next fad. So, why I love the mini r/c's, and am happy for what Tomy gave us, I would have to say I'm happy that more serious players are coming out of the wood-woks. Why? Because Tomy is a "toy" company. Alot of the new cars are coming from generic knock-offs, OR "r/c hobby companies". I would rather have a minicar made by people who regularly target grown-ups.

Soooooooo true! I can't stand how MS markets their product. I feel like an idiot buying childrens toys at my LHS.

So what kind of product are you seeing at the hobby shop level in Asia?

It's not so much Japan. More and more I see things, like solid copper wire, used as a stock antenna instead of the regular cheap stuff. Also, perfection/LXX seems to be heading in the right direction. There are more minicars in hobby stores here, but nothing that you probably haven't seen on the net.

I did just pick up a digital speed checker made for mini cars. I'm going to be doing some test soon.
