Talking Yep, another day, another mod....

Can't stop modifying stuff.

This one is not car related, but controller related. Decided to put some "joystick" style controls on my ZZ controller. Man o Man does it make it easier to control, and it MUCH less painful. I was getting Zap thumb!

That is the finished product. I had to laugh though, when I was working on it, my wife asked me if I "made a controller I can use with my nails?!?!". Uh, yeah honey, that's it exactly! You see, she tried to drive the other night, but the stock controllers were "hurting my nails" she said. I was in tears when she said that tonight.

More pics, and some comments here:

Oh yeah, I am going to ransack her Xmas gift stash tonight too. We bought 2 other ZZ for Xmas gifts, but with my supra out of comission because of the broken steering, I must replace it!!!!

Hey Go....

You might be able to see it if you look real close, but the I drilled down the middle of them, then drilled a hole in the stock "controls" then just a small, black drywall type screw. Seems to work really well! I will do that with my other car one I locate come more joysticks!

It is night and day easier to control though...

controller mod

I had the same prob with the controller. My GF's hands got sweaty and she couldn't play. I found some small (about 1/2 in.) screws. I used a big paper clip heated on the stove to "predrill" holes. And drove the screws all the way in. I disassembled mt controller first to check for clearence. There is more than enough.

Talking Great Mod

When you use the controller do your fingers rest on the sides (the plastic posts you took from the other controller) or on the top of the screw heads?

Other than asthetics, would the mod work fine with just the screws if you left out the joysticks? Or do the joysticks make is easier on your fingers?

Do you thing rubber tubing or a simple pipe sleeve would work in place of the joysticks?

Thanks for posting a great mod!

Question Hrmmm....

I think I do both, specially for long sittings of races. I kind of move them around. I would say I mostly use the tops, but sometimes I do use the sides...all in if I start getting Zap thumb or not do I move.

Hmmm....

I would think you might be able to do it with just about any solid plastic cylinder-type thing. Just something you can drill so that you can put your screw threw it. In theory a part of a glue stick would even work...

As a side note, Gryphic Racing was just over and his thumbs are killing him. With the joysticks, the comfort is amazing.

Someone who posted at a different forum screwed in some picture frame eye loops with great success.

Yeah, I saw that today. He used a heated needle to make a hole in the center of the buttons, then screwed in some picture frame eye hooks. Nice and simple...
