Hey guys, here's some picks of my Skyline:

pre-clear coat:

after some final decals, clear-coating, and light installation:

And here's the car it's based on, the JGTC Endless Skyline:

This is my beater race skyline. Since we race in a *dirty* warehouse shipping dock, the nice one isn't going to see the track.

That skyline looks great. I think you need to paint the mirrors though. Where did you get those decals? You did a great job on masking.

No issues painting the carbon fiber since I put two coats of primer on everything 1st.

Then there's three coats of Blue Pearl spray paint.

After that I use some generic Testor's model paint for details like the black on the grills, and bumpers.

The decals were done with photoshop, and printed with Testor's BubbleJet wet transfer paper kit. Basically you can print decals, spray this sealer on 'em, cut 'em out and do the wet transfer thing like you'd do on most models.

Once everything was painted and decaled, I assembled the body, and clear-coated it with two coats of Hi-Gloss. The only drawback is that since I didn't mask off the flat black areas, like the rear underspoiler, everything's gloss now. I kinda liked the flat black under-spoilers.. oh well, next time!

Oh and the beater really is beat to hell... since we race at a warehouse, the ground is really dirty and it get all over the car. At least I don't car if the car rolls or crashes tho!

I went with the yellow mirrors for two reasons...

1) I needed a light color in order to toss the piggy decals on there (they're stolen from the WRC factory Subarus)

and 2) I thought it'd look cool to have the contrast of the bright mirrors on an otherwise dark car. A lot of times on real race cars, if you have two cars on the same team, one car will run with different mirrors so you can tell 'em apart. I figured I'd paint up as the #2 Endless Skyline... hehe.

It's kinda hard to see in the pics, but the Endless logo has a bright yellow stripe under the letters, and in person it actually matches the mirrors pretty well.

Thanks for the kudos, btw guys!

The beater is litterally primer gray, with a stock front and hood, and some rejects from the "paint department" for the sides and rear (I originally painted 'em for the Endless car, but since I didn't prime 'em 1st, they turned out like crap... and were therefore perfect for the beater... lol). The windows were brush painted in about 5 minutes... hence the terrible masking.

Overall, I really like how GOD AWFUL the car looks... especially when it's faster than the 5 other guys that showed up for our 1st "Test n Tune" event last weekend.

Awesome job sperry! I really like that. Is the decal kit you got the one from Wal Mart? How does it work? Good?

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, that means a lot coming from the resident XMod master!

Yes, the decal kit is the Testor's one available at Wal Mart.

The decal kit comes with both clear and white decal paper, and a special spray that allws the bubblejet ink to bind to the plasticy paper. One problem is that printers expect to print on white paper, so you won't be able to use the clear decals unless you're okay with only using very dark colors.

I used the white paper, since most my decals had white and/or light colors on them, and was a little disapointed that once the white decals were put on the dark blue car, they didn't look all that white... but overall I think the effect is quite good, since I can't think of a better way to do custom decals.

One thing to be carful about is drying times. You really have to make sure to let the ink dry, then wait for the sealant to dry a good couple of hours before applying the decals, or they'll bleed. Take a look at the "A" in my ZEAL window banner to see what I'm talking about... the surrounding blue ink kinda wiped away a bit. That's what'll happen if you rush it.
