Great cars all. I enjoyed looking at all of them. As I was reading this, I relized that I don't have any real good pictures of my car, but found this one in the same color and trim. Only exception is mine has the OEM spoiler on the deck lid.

Not like you're still reading this thread, but I will reply anyways...
It's true, the escort's calipers are very puny, and therefore the pads are puny and the contact area is small (something like 3"^2 on either side of the brake rotor)
With OEM style rotors, the pads are too small to do any decent stopping. They work great for a little bit, but they are quick to fade, even though I replace the brake lines about once a year, and change brake fluid when I change oil. Brake fluid's cheap, there's no good reason not to!
The brembo rotors I have do a very good job of keeping the rotor cool enough for effective braking, and when the pads DO eventually get too hot, they do a good job of giving the evaporating brake material an exit path so that my pads aren't floating on their own steam. I'm not doing lap days with it, mostly autocrossing, so I don't feel the need to buy a huge upgrade kit, especially since the escort is my beater.
