Question Motor RPM

i was wondering if the stage 2 motors are really 30,000 rpm. because that tamiya plasma dash is only 25,000 rpm and its supposed to be faster

RPMs just tells you the speed of the motor, not it's power.

torque is another large factor. the main reason I went to only using ZZ NOS motors in my bit skyline booster was the ungodly levels of torque it had, made improvements across the board.

Gearing is another huge difference. How is the tamiya geared compared to any of these cars.

Also does the tamiya have limited slip differential (LSD), like the x-mod has? LSD helps with traction, but the crude version on the x-mod also robs it of some power. If you really wanted to see some speed from the x-mod, an upgraded LSD would be in order.

Weight between the two cars is another deal. The less your car weighs, the less mass you motor has to fight against, so your motor has more spare power to give you just that little bit more speed.

Annother thing to think about- The tamiya motors ahve 2 RPM listings- one with load, and one without. Admittedly this is for the load that a mini 4wd chassis will put on it, but at least it's a little more realistic.
The other HUGE factor is the voltage that the RPM is given. Tamiya motors are listed at 2.4 to 3 Volts, and we are running them at 4.8 to 6 volts, depending on the batteries.
Feel a little better about the lower numbers now?

I just have a sinking feeling that the reason that the xmods come with 4 motors in a package is that they are the same motors that Radio shack used to sell for projects. I haven't run into them latley but they were the same size and shape... 2 voltage ratings...

Go with the skyline if you can.

I like the colors on the supra better though. Yellow is just too overdone...time to see a nice platinum or deep midnight blue....I also wouldn't mind seeing a skyline in a burnt orange color (like the 380z has for an option).
