anyone else tried other motors?
i got my pinion puller - ripped off a 8t pin and c-clamped it on my miniz x-speed motor (wasnt in use, bought it for my overland, now have a S02 motor) bolted it into my box stock spare parts car, and its faster than my fully equipped racer with clean bearings. i only ran it for a few min (5-10) and the underside was warm, motor hot. the pot metal heatsink wouldnt fit on the x-speed but it works awesome - just worried about my FETs. id love to see what its like with awd/bearings but i dont want to fry FETs, i would love to put the PN racing ball bearing motor in there (screaming fast) but i know it would fry it. anyone else tried any other motors - im scared to run mine for a while - but its night/day difference - the car slips all over the place

why do u think that the PN s03 racing motor would fry the board? and WTF is a fet... sorry i am new 2 RC but a lot of local peeps are running mini z motors no problem..... Also NML ran his motor in an xmod...

FET (cant remember what it stands for) is the electronic piece that controls the motor - they can only handle a certain amount of current then they will cook - basically the esc (electronic speed control) of the xmods board
i only know of them from mini z - some motors for mini z require a FET upgrade or an external turbo (speed control) - i got a fet upgrade from NML's associate for my mini z overland monster truck - it consists of 4 higher performance FETs in a 2x2 config - you have two FET's - one for reverse and one for forwards - 2x2 is two stacked FET's on both forward/reverse - i had to do it to get the S02 to work, it pulls more amps than stock can handle. its also faster all around (almost too fast)
i dont know what FET rat shack uses but i doubt it can handle much - but i dont know
if NML didnt do an upgrade to run his motor then maybe i can get away with an S02 - thats why i started this - the xspeed is really fast and torquey

you may get less heat if you run it in the one with bearings. Less friction and all.

yeah i was just testing it on the parts car - didnt want to fry my racers circuit board - if it works in the parts car then ill use it in my racer
im looking for anyone else who has done an engine swap - just to see what they were successful with - i will be finishing my endurance runs tonite at a friends house

I have the same swap. I don't have alot of running time on it due to crappy weather and also due to the fact that it runs way too fast for my living room.
I had no problem getting the heat sink on it, I just removed the label from the side of the motor. When I converted SkunkApe's over, I noticed his heatsink fit much tighter than mine. Could be the same problem you encountered.
BTW, we are both using 8T pinion. I think I will be experimenting with adjustable motor mounts for this setup though, as having only four gear ratios is way too restrictive IMO...

FET- Field Effect Transistor. A special kind that is more effecient than a normal bipolar transistor. MOSFETs are yet more effeicient, and can flow huge amounts of current (depending on thier size, of course).
