Possible shortage?
Been hearing about the strike at the docks on the West cost. Since most of our little friends Bits, Microsizers, ZZ, DigiQ etc come by cargo ship I am assuming if they don’t get it settled quickly both cost and availability will occur.

It sounds like a mess from the news reports. They say it hasn't effected imports yet, but it's possible that their dispute could draw the economy down more.
The union calls it a lockout and the Port calls it a strike.

From a friend in the importing business:

Yes, it sucks. We have 17,800 ... sitting in a container. But, it is worse for other people such as those who had Halloween retail freight for import or fruit exporters. Also, the guys working on the boats that are stranded out at sea. I'll be much more frustrated if this goes on more than a few days (as will everyone).

Well, you can always order individual ones from overseas.. they come over by airmail, circumventing the whole lockout/strike. I think it's about the same as buying locally.

Ending for now...
President Bush just ordered an injunction to the West Coast Port Lockout and an 80 day cooling off period under the Taft-Harley Act. The union was talking about resuming business tomorrow, but that was on the 30 day terms they set forth.

Dont they need to first go and get a judge to rule? There are a few steps to go through before the 80day stuff could be activated.

Items broken by careless dock workers making $80,000 to $120,000 per year. Can you believe that If knew I did not have to go to university to make good money but instead be a dock worker I would have.
