Thumbs up I think I figured out how to mod for moving turrets

I have been reading many of the old posts. To all 3 people that still read this, I think I may have actually figured out how to mod these so that we can control the turret. Bear in mind, I do not even have a tank yet, and that this rests on my speculation.

It all started when I read jayd's post and saw the pics inside. Then I watched the video of the new tanks again, and as someone else previously noted, we now know that the right button must be held down while the controller is turned left or right. Now I read and re-read jayd's post, and he said he NEVER EVEN TRIED to wire it this way, because he assumed a new ROM is needed, and he also added that with the current controls, if you hit the right button, it will fire, so he thought it would be unfeasible.

Presented for your consideration: When you hit the switch, all you are doing is closing the circuit so that an electric current can pass, correct? All we would need to do is re-wire the wiring which runs to the right trigger, to the left trigger, so both circuits are closed at once (or perhaps even just eliminate the wiring to the right trigger altogether ((exteme 3rd case scenario: add in another button on the controller and hook it up (((best case scenario: use meltdown's sound mod, and use the right trigger wires)))))). Then wire the original right button to the to correct points on the pcb (they were H+ and H- I believe). Wire up a motor to the correct place on the tanks pcb (H+ and H- again I think). Charge your tank, hold down the right button and press the joystick. Does it work? I DONT KNOW!! hehe But I do know that no one has reported trying this. I will do it the day my tanks get here. Someone else mentioned how to get the gears in there correctly, I will look it up later, but there is the final problem, of relocating the battery; I guess this would be dependent on each tank...where could you fit it? Where do you want more weight?

Just remember, if this works, you heard it from me. If it doesn't, lets never speak of this again. ; P

Yup, I'm here too. I don't think people have abandoned this Forum, it's just there hasn't been any new and exciting news on the CombatQ front.

Don't worry porkchop, you get a working turret mod and I'll get in line to WORSHIP you!

Well look at these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...gory=2565&rd=1

Cheap knockoff battle tanks that HAVE rotating turrets. Spare parts anyone? $30 for a pair doesnt seem too bad, although that may rest on what the internals look like, I will be modding from a Winter Battle set (from what I read it seems they are of higher quality, so I decided to use them as a base). After we see what makes the rotating turrets tick, we will be one step closer. BTW I am the winner of that auction, but they come up often. Also on Ebay right now is a 4 tank charger, for like $30. There were 2 for sale, I bought 1 of them

I just found out about these things and I am insane for Combat Digi-Q. I cant wait til all this stuff comes in, hopefully by late next week. We need someone to machine out metal gears for our Digi-Qs so that they last for a long time!

I am gonna start some new threads as well, I have tons of crazy ideas.

Wow...it's been a while since I've had a chance to look around here. I'm trying to remember exactly what I did inside that controller. I know I never removed the wire from the right trigger, so if you rewired it you might be able to get it working.
Here's what I do remember. I did wire one of the engine motors to the H+ and H- and try to make as many closed circuits inside the controller as possible. I had a wire on ground and closed it with about every contact point inside the controller I could find, and I couldn't get the motor to run. I also tried this with the steering knob held down left and right.
What I did not do was try to rewire anything having to do with the steering. I also didn't try (but should have) to make all of those random contacts first, and then press the steering knob. It probably makes a difference in the order they're pressed. One would steer and then fire, where the other may actually turn that turret.
Either way, I broke the two tanks I set aside for experimentation and don't have the cash to keep tinkering. It would be great if you figure something out. Otherwise, I got so busy with school that I've decided I'm content on waiting until they release the official ones. Good luck though. I'll keep an eye out for any progress.
