sticky tires
The tires on brand new bits seem to be super sticky compared to the replacements. Does anyone know where to get the really soft black slicks that come stock?
Or any other good soft compounds!

what kind of replacements are you buying?
The Microsizer Tire Set has no grip whatsoever, even the soft, knobbly tires. heh, i bought these just to find out =P
The Bit Char-G tireset comes with hard tires, stock tires, and extremely soft tires. the soft ones are like putting glue on your wheels. the colors are kinda funny, but it's very very worth the money. the hard fronts are worth the money alone, for they're sticky enough to grip, but never allow the car to flip.
hope that helps!

Thanks. I got the MicroSizers tire set, and they do suck. The hard ones are good for the front, but those grooved ones on the back - give me a break!
So, try the Bit Char-G tires? Any other good ones?

yep, make sure it's the Bit Char-G tire set, there should be purple, red, and blue tires. To me, these are worth their weight in gold.
hmmmm i think clone tiresets are okei, cuz they're soft slicks too..

clones
i found that most clones have really waxy tires that dont fit the rim properly, especially those that come on the ones in a domed cylinder.

The BCG slot cars come with slicks for the front, and the pullbacks have some outstanding back tires. You'll have to cut them with an exacto knife or something to get them to fit properly, but they stick to the ground better then the softs. Also, certain ergonomic pen grips make great tires, and they come in all different types, stikyness and colors.

My Auto Modellista set came with Medium tires, but they seem to grip pretty well, actually a little too well on some corners cause I can roll it easily, lol. TOO MUCH POWER!

I ordered the Bit Char-G tires first thing. My Perfection 4.2 came in the mail yesterday, all i can do is doughnuts and spin-outs!
Do the slot car tires have the little groove on the inside? And where do you find those?
That's pretty crafty making your own out of pens.

Yes, they're made by tomy and fit perfectly. In fact I think they are the same thing as the hard tires that come with the set. I'm in okinawa, so I'm not sure where to find them in your neck of the woods, but I think somebody mentioned they where at wall-mart.
Actually, I didn't come up with the pen idea. I'm just passing it on.
They don't sit flat, but they still work great. Some are extremely sticky too.
Oh, and one more trick, if you sand the back tires a little, they'll grip better.
AND, sorry one more, try to make the front end lighter (carefully). The BCGs are front heavy, thats one reason they like to spin out so much. If you do dual-cell mods, then try to get the batteries to sit as far back as you can. I just finished a dual-cell mod by taking out the peice of plastic between the battery compartment and the motor compartment. I didn't take it completely out. I wanted to keep some structure to the car. Now that car handles extremely well. In fact I put all stock tires back on it. It's god's gift to drifting too. Actually I think I'll expand with a new forum so everyone else get gain by it.

Actually, weight in the rear would make it spin out more, not less. Think of holding a ten-pound barbell, and then imagine trying to turn it. Now think of holding a ten-pound bowling ball, and imagine trying to turn it. The ball is easier to turn because the weight is more centralized.

Sorry murc, but I'm not saying to make it too back heavy. The bits are already front heavy. It's obvious TOMY never took that into account when they made these cars. I'm saying to displace the weight better. Try experementing with some small peices of weight, you'll see what I mean.
I first noticed this when I picked up a bus. The buses are a little slower, but handle very well. The bus frame itself is heavier, witch displaces the weight differently.
BTW bus # 11 has extreme range. Makes a good mod car.
