no crip, no range?

Hey, I have a red evo VII 35mhZ, and i have searched all over the bread board and i found no crip cap. But, i have like no range maybe 4-5 feet. And i got my bit from japan April last year so i don't think it is the generation witha crip cap.. can someone explain why i have no range? i may get some more when i get some materials or a cat5 antenna and telescopic antenna(thanks QFM)

Exclamation DO NOT remove car "cripple cap"

The in-car "cripple cap" as detailed at http://tinyrc.com/qfm/racing/mod_08.htm#29 (QFM's tip #29) is *NOT* a cripple cap.

It's the power supply RF bypass cap, responsible for reducing the
amount of RF noise on the receiver's power supply. Removing it
will make your Bit more susceptible to RF noise (including motor
noise). That's Bad.

You can verify this by looking at the back side of the board. The cap
is parallel with the leads from the electrolytic cap (black cylinder) that
sticks out the back of the board. If you're a masochist like me, you
can sit down and trace out the power routing on the board to prove it.
