[a few points of interest:
1.an intercooler, is called an intercooler, because it cools the air from the turbo to the throttle body without it escaping to open air.thus it cools it internally within the piping from turbo to the throttle body.]
Ummmm...when I worked on 16V92T Detroits we always called the cooler between the 4 turboes and the 2 superchargers "intercoolers", and the coolers between the 2 superchargers and the manifold "aftercoolers."
2.as you compress any gas as you will learn in physics, or chemistry class someday, the gas itself becomes colder.eventually under a certain pressure which differs for different gases it will become a liquid.thus nitrous oxide while compressed in a bottle at 1100psi is actually a liquid, not a gas.it only becomes a gas again when it is depressurized into the atmosphere.
Actually, when you compress gas it gets hotter. When you depressurize it, it gets colder. If it didn't, the refrigeration industry as we know it wouldn't be.
3.an intercooler works just like a radiator, only air is running through it instead of antifreeze.
Agreed.
4.the only reason you really need to use an intercooler, is because of the heat created, when the bearings of the center housing are spinning at a high boost level, they are traveling at an average of over 100,000 rpm.thus, the heat from the exhaust gases driving the turbo, and the heat from these bearings transfer to the intake side of the turbo housing.exhaust gas temperature(egt) during boost can reach as high as 1800 degrees farenheit.so imagine blowing air through a steel tube that is being heated with blowtorches to 1800 degrees.the air coming out of the tube, will be much hotter than the air going in.
Uhhhhh...ok...so turboes operate really hot. But what about roots huffers that don't spin at 100,000 rpms, and don't have exhaust going into them? Compressing air makes it hotter...
5.who is GREEDY?greddy makes 1 turbo kit for that year civic.
OK, but what do you need a kit for anyways? Check out the Yahoo! group Junk yard turbo sometime...
6.zex, makes 1 nitrous kit.that's all.no stages.that's something you kids have learned from gran turismo.
I dunno...don't use or follow nitrous that much.
7.what in the hell is a FART ecu?
Dunno.
8.if this 240 did exist, it would eat said honda for breakfast.i have been working with my buddy on his 98 240 with an sr swap for two years.no idea how much horespower it makes, but it has an apexi boost controller, afc, and turbo timer, nismo 425cc injectors, t25 garrett turbo rebuilt by majestic trubo with a 50 trim wheel, custom made intercooler, greddy type s blowoff valve, custom made intercooler pipes, trust radiator, trust 3"downpipe, apexi n1 3" cat back exhaust, tein HA coilover suspension, and kaaz limited slip diff. w/75mm axles.there isn't a street legal v-8 around here that wil touch it.
Maybe around there...but I know some street legal V8's in Chicago and Denver that would eat that alive (not dissing all that work...I'm just saying don't be too ****y...as they say in Episode I "there's always a bigger fish.")
9.trust me, my best friend owns an import performance shop
www.sevenspeed.com
Good for you...or I guess more likely your friend...I've worked on engines that range in size from Cox glow engines to Fairbanks Morse Opposed piston 38A20's that put out 1500 HP per cylinder (and there are 20 cylinders). I've toyed with blown engines, turboed engines, (not much NOS though...), bored engines, stroked engines, carbed engines, fuel injected engines, gasoline engines, nat gas engines, LPG engines, diesel engines, and a bunch more.
