I just got mine. Range was about 8ft stock. I replaced the car antenna with a longer bit of Cat5 conductor and I'm up to about 18" max in a large room.
Gonna do the telescoping antenna mod tomorrow....

Yeah. If you are gonna only have 1 car then I think the 49Mhz is the one to have. The range on those tends to be much better.
If you're gonna have both freqs. then definately do all the antenna mods...
