adding suspension springs...question
 

hi, im new to the bit charg and i have yet to fully disassemble it.....last night i had an idea to....well... break my cheap mechanical pencil and take the spring that is used to load lead...

the spring is a good diameter and i cut them to the right size, and i KNOW they are going to fit....but the problem is...i cant seem to figure out how to open the hatch under where the struts are without breaking anything ;/

if someone has a diagram or a solution..please tell me :D

I have done this to all my cars. The tricky part is cutting them to the same length, so the car is balanced. Once you take out the screw under the clear PCB cover, disassemble the front end and get to work. Always test the steering before you fully re-assemble the car, in case you need to make adjustments.

payaso, what type of pen/pencil did you use? It seems like you have to get just the right one or it will be too stiff.

that mod works really really well in my Trueno, it actually changes the handeling and works really well on rough surfaces

These springs are gold plated, and from QFM. BIG PIMPIN..
My supra has the silver plated bling bling.. Gotta love QFM.

hey...how do u guys get the steering to work after u put the springs in....?

i put perfectly fittin springs in yesterday....but the steering was bad cuz of the magnet gettin attracted to it......

how do u guys prevent the magnet from gettin attracted to the spring...?

That's impossible. If anything, it would help draw the magnet over, cause the springs are located on the sides of the car. What happened is that your springs are too stiff. The coils don't have enough power to pull the magnet if the springs are putting too much pressure on the suspention. Try cutting them shorter and see if that helps...

In the QFM website, It said that those springs were 'Tomy micro springs'.. but what are they orginally for?

my springs r not too stiff....

they r shorter than the shaft cuz im tryin to lower the chassis but still have good steering....

i dunno wats wrong wit it but until sum1 can help me im running it normal....

i change my mind
 

heh yeah....i took out my springs...i think it was a bad idea now...cuz at first they were too bouncy...and my steering was off...so i took em out...
i think im going to somehow find/make plastic springs :D or some other contraption

Bay on Aim and MTL,

I dont recommend using pen springs because we have tried that before and the tension is too stiff, and the springs are magnetically attracted which throw off steering. I believe that is what is causing your problem. We sell non-magnetic springs that are delicate enough to compress on the Bits own weight. Unfortunately we are out of stock at the moment though. Also, this isnt the easiest mod to do, so I dont recommend trying it until you are comfortable disassembling and reassembling your front end.
