Plastic Heat Sink
 

Can i use the plastic heat sink on the stage two motors? or will it melt?

The "Plastic Heatsinc" that comes in the car is not really a heatsink, it is just a motor mount. You really need the Stage2 Heatsink in order to use a Stage2 motor. (I even use the Stage2 Heatsink on my Stage1 Motors)

You don't need the metal heat sink at all. If you're really concerned with the weight of your car, you can just use plastic motor mount and run for shorter amounts of time and take longer breaks to let the motor cool.

the only time i would use the heatsink is if u have 5 or 6 cell mod, driving for like 10 mins makes the motor really hot, but u really dont even need the heatsink

so if i add a stage 2 motor and using the plastic motor mount, it won't melt if i let it cool and give it short runs?

There probably isn't a fan both light and energy-efficient enough to be worth installing to cool the motor off. I don't think you'd melt the plastic mount even if you ran it for the life of the batteries, but you wouldn't want to do that very often, just in case. Using the stage 2 sink is just a better idea, I don't see why you'd want a plastic one in the first place.

I remember a discussion about installing a fan, however I do not think anyone actually installed a fan.

I've heard of a guy using a 5cm x 5cm computer fan but I think it would be a waste considering the weight and current draw.

I used a dremel and an exacto knife to cut out the vents in the body work. I have a white body so the bare plastic isn't very noticeable but i'm going to be painting it soon any way.

It's not connected to anything at the moment, but what it's going to be connected to is either too heavy for the amount of power it provides to make the tradeoff, or it's connected to the XMODS batteries, robbing the motor of power enough to heat it up in the first place and negating the whole point of the fan.

It's just not that big a deal; people run six-cell mods with hot motors all the time, and they don't blow.

about that fan idea,

if you could, you mught be able to mount one directly to the front of the motor if you extended the armature shaft? just attach a little fan and the motor would spin it.;)
