s2 / SB hybrid

I was thinking of using a stage2 11t motor, decreasing the winds a lil, increasing the timing and switching out the magnets for SpinBrush magnets... please let me know your thoughts.

I wanted to use the stage2 11t for speed and SB magnets for the torque.

I don't feel like putting money down for a NML or Redline yet until the rest of the guys I race against up the ante.

In conjunction with the hybrid motor I wanted to do a 6 cell upgrade.

ANY thoughts based on REAL experience, thanks

It works, but I don't think the combo has quite enough torque to push the tall gears. Go with a 9 or 10 tooth.

I still say the 180 motor is the way to go for a cost-effective upgrade. Just $10-13, and the 11 tooth gear is like a drift gear with this motor. Again, it won't fit in the RSX.

why wont it fit in the rsx?

TypeZer0 12-26-2003 01:22 AM

rsx uses a shorter wheelbase (middle setting) and won't have the room for the 180 motor and in case you ask, 180 motors are longer by over 1 cm

SKYHIGH 12-26-2003 02:15 AM

ok thats cool thanx but on my rsx i have converted it to fwd, so could I use the longer driveshaft, cut off the cone, and be able to use it

You would still have to keep the same wheelbase for your body to fit, and to do that, you would have to leave the rear chassis in the middle position. That is what the motor mounts to, so you still would not have the room.

What is this motor called, an can you get it a RS?

I believe its the tamtech 180 motor that everyone is using. I found one on ebay for 10 bucks. Its a black motor...youll just have to swap the pinions.

my motor

hey my 180 motor ( or so i beleive it to be a 180 because its bigger than stock but itll fit..) my motor is a "Hoppin Hydros" "Big Bad Johnson Motor" it cost me like 5.95 at my lhs, i also picked up a 12Tpinion to take advantage of its torque. another plus is that the motor was built for 2.4V applications however out x-mods are 4.8 and sometimes even 7.2 so i beleive it will fly.. im just not sure if it will burn out my esc (i dont wanna ruin my xmod i love it to death... my mom hates me because i rearranged our living room into a race coarse lol) so please could someone tell my if this motor will work??

red02zx3 12-27-2003 02:29 PM

from what I understand, the 180s will work without hurting the XMODs. Since its made for 2.4V , Id say youll be Ok, cause its not built to draw major amounts of current......anyone?

alright thnx...ill give it a shot once i finish painting
