Woah! killer!
man, the breadboard looks like lumber at that scale, doesn't it?

ph2t 06-07-2003 08:09 PM

lol! sure does strider. Check out some video of the lights in action.

Absolutely way cool!
Very nice work man.

ph2t 06-07-2003 08:53 PM

Thanks homie.

I'm now working on brake lights that are dim untill you stop when they then come on full brightness. Like a real car......

After that I'll get the front headlights going as well. They will be dim in reverse and stop mode. Then full brightness when going fwd...

wow those lights are MINI! where'd you pick those up at? and also, how bright are they?

ph2t 06-13-2003 03:41 AM

Midget, I got them from an aussie supplier. Just look online for SMD leds. That's Surface Mount LED's, much smaller than normal LED's. The yellow ones aren't that bright. I gotta up the voltage to about 5V so they shine a bit more. The DC-DC converter I'm using is one of the originals from a clone PCB, not very good. Driving 4 LEDS can suck a bit of current.......

Just wait till I finish the fully functional headlights and brake lights, now that's gonna look mad!

if possible could you post the schmatic

ph2t 06-13-2003 04:59 PM

Sure, here it is.

This doensn't include the 3V supply, you need to source that as well.

somwhere on the net a saw schmatics for recarable 5v lithium coin batteryies

BabyKiller 06-13-2003 05:56 PM

oh and how bright do these leds get with good volts i was sketchy on buying small ones like them

ph2t 06-13-2003 06:07 PM

These are rated at about 20-30 mcd which enough for this application. I'm experimenting with a 1.2V->5V dc-dc converter at the moment. The video shows the lights running on a 3V dc-dc converter...... These converters only work well for the LED circuit due to the current limitations.....

Azimov 06-17-2003 08:37 PM

Brilliant stuff! I love it. BTW, where would such a circuit hook to a Zip? Great work.

ph2t 06-17-2003 11:10 PM

I don't have a zipzap mate so I wouldn't know sorry. I got some old ZZ pcb's sessiz sent me, I'll have a look at them.

I've now got this running on a 5V source and the LED's are much brighter. Those DCDC converters are great!

Cheers,

old post, but blah or well...

anyways, for your brake lights, won't it be easier to wire it up to the car's rechargeable batteries? Since when your car is going, its going to drain the battery, and therefore, your lights will be dimmer, then, when you coast, which is partically like braking, the LEDs would be their brightest, simulating the brake lights.......

but.......if you're not going 2x cells, you can ignore this post....
