Podracer

I think you would be able to make a pod racer out of a digi-q, some lexan, plastic and mold, foam, 3.8 motors, wire, and wires with small plugs and female connectors to fit in. Like this!

[]-[] <-- Electric ducted fan units
\ / <-- The wires with plugs
[-] <-- Pod with digi-q PCB inside

The difference in motor speed would steer pod like the car. Wires with plug would have female connector in the motor. The wires would simply plug into the EDF's. Small pieces of lexan would make small wings on pod and engines.:D   :p :D   :p

hogjowlz 03-13-2003 04:40 PM

how does it float a few feet off the ground?

Hello? What about magic? You didn't forget about magic did you? lol

hogjowlz 03-13-2003 04:53 PM

also the fan unit is the motor so where does the 3.8s come in?
you would need some serious power to move any fan fast enough to propel at a fast enough speed to make it cool.

my biggest question still is how you would get everything to levitate.

hogjowlz 03-13-2003 04:53 PM

man i cant believe you and myself forgot about the force.

Racer9 03-13-2003 06:58 PM

it will have small legs of lexan to hold it up until the wings take over. The 3.8s will run the fan units!

got BITS? 03-13-2003 07:05 PM

For a min I thought you were talking about Zcars. I'm interested in seeing how this turns out. If you wreck the digiq send it to me!

how will the 3.8s run the fan?

i already stated this. the fan unit is the motor. i dont get how a motor will power another motor.

and to get two fans to drag all that weight that is dragging on lexan you would need to build a mini fusion reactor or something.

youd have better luck mastering the force.

Cyber BRat 03-13-2003 11:47 PM

Man no offence that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. That is impossible.

1 Attachment(s)
I was really bored an made one..... sort of. It was from this set I got a while ago. I see some real potential in this though. It has a black base with 4 wheels that it's normally on. Put the pcb on the bottom, add some gears to the back, add a steering unit to the front, and maybe make the engines of the pod racer the batteries instead of the decorated one the set comes with.

dustn 03-14-2003 12:55 AM

lets all keep in mind that Racer9 was the guy that was all positive that he could get a rotary-powered bit for $75... My suggestion would be to watch the movie and press the buttons on your controller for realism.

NT-APEX 03-14-2003 05:05 AM

Or just play the game instead!

Racer9 03-14-2003 03:02 PM

3.8 would run fan! BTW I changed my mnid to use helium to hold it up!

hogjowlz 03-14-2003 03:28 PM

how does the 3.8 run the fan?

any fan you buy already has a motor in it. are you planning on having 3.8 power a generator to power the fan? that would be inefficient way to do this. plus most fan motors are going to be more powerful than a "3.8" and any fan that would propel that much weight is going to have a heavy voltage requirment which would mean you will need about 30batteries to run everything which will make your podracer the size of you. helium? you will need a balloon about 1000 times the size of the pod racer to lift it.

i commend you on your creativity and all but this would not work with todays technology. thats why pod racers appeared in a "science fiction" movie

hogjowlz 03-14-2003 03:40 PM

http://imagescommerce.bcentral.com/m...AFMicroFan.jpg

this fan costs 140$ and i doubt two of them would pull that much weight because you will be lugging a lot of batteries around. how you planning on steering this btw?

you would be better off making your rotary engine first.

AUDI-TT 03-14-2003 03:47 PM

i think he mneans there will be propellors connected to 3.8s to srteer the thing and since u cant make it float hell use sheets of lexan as legs...

hogjowlz 03-14-2003 04:00 PM

strider_mt2k 03-14-2003 04:20 PM

You will need a bag of magic sand to do this.
Luckily you can buy this from me.

Oh, I forgot, you'll also need a bag of magic water, because without it, the magic sand won't work.

Good luck with the pod blimps. ;)

payaso 03-14-2003 04:21 PM

That drawing is fantastic.. The bad part is I understood all of it...lol

hogjowlz 03-14-2003 04:31 PM

i know. im special.

windows paint rulez!!

Racer9 03-14-2003 04:46 PM

steer by different motor speeds! BTW if you don't like the idea LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hogjowlz 03-14-2003 04:47 PM

im just showing that it is not possible with todays technology.
dont get irate

AUDI-TT 03-14-2003 05:35 PM

guys leave him alone he's only a 13 year old kid

Which one, the one with the idea, or the spaz?

AUDI-TT 03-14-2003 05:41 PM

the on with the idea , i think
the on with the spaz is like 27 or something

hogjowlz 03-14-2003 05:53 PM

yes im a spaz.

so yes ill be quiet next time someone trys to pass some strange fantasy off as a real project idea.

Racer9 03-14-2003 06:01 PM

I will attempt this soon!

strakka 03-14-2003 07:48 PM

well about the duct fan...... you could make your own....... with alot of help of course....... and the magic.....lol

Silent_NightR34 03-14-2003 07:59 PM

hum...wellllllll.....................u could have nie big sheet of magnet on the floor and stick some magnets on the bottem of the pod...the u can use the fans and stuff...i think u should use 4 motors tho...2 to push and the other 2 to steer..you will go alot faster.

Zephyranthes 03-14-2003 08:19 PM

That seems likea good idea. Stick some REM magnets on tope of the BCG car. Stick some on the bottom of the podracer, so it would float because they would repel each other. You would have to attach some string to it so it doesn't fall off though. I have some of that invisible string stuff for magic tricks.

Racer9 03-15-2003 07:45 AM

sounds like a good idea but I mean by itself.:D   :p

Racer9 03-16-2003 02:42 PM

I will try that soon!:D   :p

dustn 03-16-2003 05:01 PM

ok, podracers are BS anyway... There would be no reason to make something like they had in the movie... And it would be pretty damn hard to do levitation (if you could at all) the magnet thing will most likely do badly (the fields will not interact the way you think they will). Make something to go on a air hockey table or somthing. Just put your efforts towards something REAL like a hovercraft, plane, or something like that instead of a very imaginative vehicle from a scifi movie.

Zephyranthes 03-16-2003 05:08 PM

What will the magnets do?

Lol somebody should make a R/C Segway.

strakka 03-16-2003 05:45 PM

they would probly lock instead of counteracting the other

Zephyranthes 03-16-2003 07:28 PM

lock?

hogjowlz 03-16-2003 08:25 PM

actually the magnets would work

if everything was "perfectly aligned" and you could find a big magnet sheet that was strong enough. and you were a jedi master. i say hes got about a 1 in 5billion chance of getting the magnet thing to work. then if it does you can drive it as far as the magnet sheet goes.

Zephyranthes 03-16-2003 09:19 PM

I think I'll just stick with the video game. It's a fun game.

Racer9 03-18-2003 03:36 PM

yeah it is but i just had an idea. I may not be on for a while because I have to do a Spanish project that was due 2 weeks ago!:D   :p :( :( :(
