question for ppl w/booster cars

i wanna get a booster car a bit char-g fairlady or auto modellista and i have a couple questions. ok some one said that the pcb was different then normal ones is that true? 2 has any one tried racing a booster with a normal car with the same gears, motor and everything and see if it actually went faster?3 when you push the boost button does it go noticably faster?

jei$ 02-02-2003 10:01 PM

yes i think the PCB is diff
i got 2 auto modellista sets
boost is noticably different
u have to hlod down the button tho
no boost just looks cooler
ur going all slow and then it goes really fast
but when u hit boost, it forces more power
to the motor so it goes about 10more MPH
scale speed

isk8blind 02-02-2003 10:03 PM

uhhhhh

ok thanks jei$

I have raced my honda s2000 with my am set, same gears motor etc...and they are basically same speed...Holding boost makes a major difference for me...without its really slow

I've got the skyline booster set and the boost is great. The boost isn't that great just playing, its cool but not that useful. Now if you plan to race the booster is great. It allows you to run a much hotter motor, it makes it great for the curves. Just let off the button to avoid spinnig out, Its great! The only problem is the range isn't that great.

Not to be a stickler, but I think its a bit more than 10 mph scale speed increase. Lets say your bit goes a scale speed of 130 mph unboosted. It would probably run around 175 mph scale boosted. Theres a very noticeable difference between boosted and unboosted. Also, boosted cars on the juice are faster than single speed cars running the same setup.

how much faster is a stock booster in comparision to a stock normal MS or bit?

(yes i know I own one...but i haven't raced it)

eman1 02-03-2003 05:31 PM

5.4% faster

FullyBaked 02-03-2003 05:41 PM

Dude, he meant 10 mph faster compared to a normal car with the exact same engine, gears, etc... For example, he has one normal car with ALL the same parts as the boost car (except for boost function), and he was saying that if you have a normal car at max speed, and a boost car with boost on, the boost car goes about 10 mph scale speed faster than the regular car without boost at top speed... Get It? Got It? Good...

and since we're on the subject of boosting and the like....

what's the best motor to put in a booster?
(and how long does tinyrc take to ship to tx?)

Pojo 02-03-2003 06:35 PM

Well bates suggested a "hot" (good) motor in a booster, such as a 3.5 or 3.8. And Tiny takes about 3 days to ship to anywhere! :D

soo...... the r spec would be a good choice then, Kemosabe?

hahaha look at me be incredibly white

FullyBaked 02-03-2003 06:43 PM

Yeah, that's prolly an excellent choice...

does anyone actually have a fairlady with the r spec in it?

ShadowMage 02-04-2003 11:07 AM

I've got a boosted Mobil1 NSX w/ r-spec....does that count? :D

ohbabyracing 02-04-2003 04:53 PM

I`ve got the Auto Modellista set with a 3.0 Tomy motor. It`s too slow unboosted but it`s a flyer with boost. Does continually holding the boost button down damage the Bit? t the moment it`s the only way i can keep up on the tabletop track, but i`m a little concerned about burning something out. I know it`s just a voltage limiter and unboosted cars can run twice the voltage (dual cell). I just want to be sure i`m not gonna do it a nasty as these sets aren`t cheap!.

ShadowMage 02-04-2003 07:17 PM

No you won't burn anything out by running it boosted all the time. In fact the 4 channel multi-controller has an option to allow you to run your booster in boost-mode constantly (i.e. you don't have to hold down the button). So no you won't burn anything out (as far as PCB) but it WILL shorten the life of the motor.

I just got my R-spec for my Fairlady. I'll be doin the dual cell mod soon, but imma try it out with the stock battery for now.

FullyBaked 02-04-2003 08:59 PM

Hella tight, I'mma buy some Lxx's for guinea piggin'...
