Replacing the steering coils...
 

I really dont have any suggestions on what material could be used to replace the steering coils, because I have never come across anything similar. But I dont recommend it becaue the coil wire is finicky to begin with. I split one once and had a hell of a time soldering it back together. It works now after like "6" tries at the soldering. I actually lost a whole section of hte wire, so I used a length of solder as an extension between the two ends.

Does it work OK with the replacement wire?

Works perfectly.
