GI Joe, My 'Other' Hobby
Posted 03-09-2008 at 09:20 PM by arch2b
not really RC related but since this is a blog I thought I would share some of my other hobbies...
Startign I guess, last fall, I caught wind of Hasbro's Launch of the 25th Anniversary line of Joes to be released. Ever since I saw the 1st couple carded figures, I knew i was hooked... Something about the vintage card art, vintage figures just brought me right back to some of the happy times I had as a kid. It's hard to explain how a bit of cardboard and plastic can give so much joy but it's true, other than my rc's, these have been my other passion. So much so that I spent a good deal of the winter buying Target clearance 1:18 scale vehicles to modify for dislpay with my Joes since at the time, there were no retooled, redone, re-released Hasbro Vehicles.
First, I'll give some background information resources
1. Hasbro's product webapge
2. Toy News International webpage
3. The BEST source for 3 3/4" accessories
4. Great source for archival info on vehciels and characters
There are hundreds of other sites but these are worth looking at.
Now, to show off some of my handy work, see the following galleries for customized vehicles
1. GI Joe and Cobra Bradley vehicles

2. Cobra MOBAT

3. Crimson Guard LAV

4. GI Joe Dragonfly Apache

5. Cobra Fang Little Bird

To make this even more enjoyable, my youngest son LOVES these as well and he is quickly amassing a comperable army to my own.
One of goals for this year is to find a 1:18 scale rc vehicle that will make a suitable Joe customization project. I've actually seen youtube video of people who have taken 1:18 helicopter toys and made them functional rc's!
