new (to x-mods) speed tip. Increase speed with ANY motor. FREE, no sales pitch!

I'm back in 1/10th scale now, but thought I'd drop y'all a tip I learned from there. You can take a tiny drill bit or a router bit and drill holes in the motor's armature in order to lighten it and increase spin speed. It's illegal to do in sactioned 1/10 races, but I haven't heard of anybody doing it to x-mods, it's call "lightening the comm/arm". Be careful not to drill too many holes as to defeat the structural integrity of it and crack it or have it shatter while spinning. That's all, have fun...bye bye.

you may only be able to drill one hole in these because of their size. more acceleration/ top end but lower torque because you're decreasing the pull btw the magnets and the armature. i might try that.

Yeah and the comm is the part the brushes touch! I don't have any good R/C cars and I know that! You would lighten the armature!

Some of the better 540 motors I used back in the day used to use those little holes as a method of balancing the armature.

If you try this you have to make sure that you drill the holes in the same spot on the armature. if you don't then the motor will run 'off'.(i think )

if you take too much weight off one side the motor will have a really bad vibration. if that happens it is ery likely hat the motor will never reach its top speed until it is fixed.
