Skid Plate

While I was waiting for the paint to dry on my Gunmetal Skyline, I decided to do the upgrades on the chassis. One of the extras I did was to make a skid plate for the bottom.

I used some #255 aluminum (.016" thick) I found at the hobby store. I made all of my measurements and cut it with some regular scissors. I then used a file to round and smooth the edges. I used a hand drill to cut out a slot for the switch and drill the 2 holes for the screws to hold it. I used the 2 screws on either side of the switch to attach the skid plate.

I left the plate short of the rear so I had access to the body tab/hook and lock. I can still remove the batteries by only removing the upper clips and just pull them out.

Here is an under shot...

As you can see, the plate doesn't effect the ground clearance.

I bent the front upward and in front of where each battery compartment sticks out.

The aluminum was a whopping $1.20 for a 4"x10" sheet. I really don't want to get involved in making things for money and sending them off in the mail, but I could draw a layout with the measurements and post it here. The only tools you need are a pencil, something to measure with, scissors, and a hand drill (looks like an x-acto knife, but with a bit), or you could use a pair of pliers to hold a drill bit, and a file.

There was nothing wrong. I accidently posted too big of a pic the first post, and for some reason it wouldn't let me edit it, so I had to delete the thread and re-post everything.

Sorry about that.

Thanks!

Sorry about the crappy drawing, but it is 1:00 a.m. here so....

This is for a chassis with the batteries in the rear position. If you have something different, just move those pieces towards the front however much you move the batteries. You could also just go ahead and move it up some and be covered for all settings. The dotted lines are where you bend upward.

Mine is a Skyline, but the pecies in front of the tires are far enough foreward it would hit on a short chassis. The only thing you may have to do is shorten the rear up to clear the differential hump in the chassis and access to the tab lock.

Disclaimer:
It's always better to measure yourself. You can use this drawing as a guideline.

is the goal to this mod to just prevent and underbody scrapping? or to also protect the car from snapping any pieces?
