Gen 1 Servo to Evo Elec Compatibility
I've heard talk of people wanting to hybrid their Gen 1's and Evo's. Supposedly the Gen 1 handles better, and the Evo has better elecs, so why not take the best of both worlds and make a better xmod? The task in doing this is being able to properly connect the Gen 1 servo wiring to the Evo electronics and make it work. I've analyzed both sets of elecs and have figured out the compatibility. Here's what I found....
If anyone has taken a close look at the boards in both Gen 1 and Evo, you've noticed that everywhere an output or input is, there is a number for the solder point. There's 5 particular points, on both sets of elecs, that correspond to each wire of their respective servos. Three of the wires are for the servo's feedback potentiometer, and the other two are for the servo's motor. Here's the wiring color scheme along with their respective pad numbers......
The Gen 1 servo's feedback potentiometer has a brown(8 ) , a red(9), and an orange(10) wire. The Gen 1 servo's motor has a blue(4) and a red(5) wire. The evo servo's feedback potentiometer has a white(14), an orange(15), and a black(16) wire. The evo servo's motor has a white(4) and a black(5) wire. All this made for some serious confusion in trying to figure out which wire is which for the purposes of compatibility, but a DMM and a power supply came in real handy in figuring it out. Here's the deal....
To connect the gen 1 servo to evo elecs, connect.....
Gen 1 servo potentiometer brown wire to Evo elec pad# 14
Gen 1 servo potentiometer red wire to Evo elec pad# 15
Gen 1 servo potentiometer orange wire to Evo elec pad# 16
Gen 1 servo motor red wire to Evo elec pad# 4
Gen 1 servo motor blue wire to Evo elec pad# 5
Hope this is clear enough.....good luck.
