My first custom paint job.....Sapphire Evo.

This was my first time painting a body. I used plain old rattle can auto touch up paint, sapphire color and clear coat. Turned out a lot better than expected. I still have to paint the trim, headlights, tailights, vents etc. The clear coat somehow found it's way under the masking tape. Any suggestions for next time? I may tint the windows on the inside on this one to hide it.

Other future mods include: custom exhaust, real screenwork up front, working headlights and taillights, and hopefully a mosfet mod.

same with me, my first paintjob came out better than i expected. the key is being SUPER patient with your masking, and to make sure the painting is even. also, you might want to invest in a 20-30 dollar airbrush at walmart. it will change your world.

I plan on purchasing an airbrush after I get some experience with technique and PATIENCE which is a big one for me.

Looks good! I usually just remove all the tape and apply the clearcoat right over the windows and all. I use Rustoleum crystal clear enamel spray paint. It doesn't fog the windows at all. It even makes the glass look, well, glassier. I usually go about painting in steps. First, I mask really well making sure all edges are down good and pushed into body lines. Then, the paint is applied in several thin coats. Once it dries, I remove the tape and add decals, stripes or whatever. Let that dry and clear coat the whole shabang. BTW, the car looks silver or aluminum on my screen, but you are calling it saphire. Saphire is a dark blue, so I am confused.

So whats the story on those rims?

Brand, where they come from, etc?

BTW, that is a nice paint job, I did my first paint that color, a Grand Cherokee.

Nice work!!

The cap actually says it is Light Sapphire.....sorry. I thought about clear coating the windows on purpose, but I saw and read somewhere that it made them look bubbly or something. Thanks for the advice azimov!

verbalkent: The wheels are from the DUB City Import Racer diecast. Search the forum for Dub City and you should see plenty topics discussing them and installation.

BTW, I am tossing around whether to keep the chrome wheels & silver spoiler, or go with this look......

Opinions please.

the black spoiler and black and chrome wheels look great on it, it's a nice contrast to the rest of the beautiful paint job

Look at my earlier post. Search the forum and you will find plenty of info on the DUB wheels and installation.

OK, I have gone as far as I am gonna go on this one and scrap it and start over. Iam not satisfied with the way it turned out so far. First lesson learned...I suck at detailing things like trim work. Second, don't use gloss black for window trim. The shine is overbearing to the body shine. I will use flat black from now on. I shot the pics in low light to be able to see the details like the turn signals, etc. All in all, not bad for my first time I think.
