terrible
usually i'm pretty buisy with "normal" life myself,
most people with a hobby could relate to the "time issue",
there simply isn't a lot of hobbytime to go around. *lol*
i'dd love to see your diorama's someday
the stationairy cannon is also prone to the time thing,
but i'm getting ahead somehow.
next step, getting all the components.
(actually a very short list)
will keep posting about it, as far as i know
there never was a "how to" in english on the internet.
and yeah, why not checkup once in a while

Thanks for keeping things going in this thread epoxy, I've been a long time fan of the Combat Digi-Qs (ever since they first came out) and have 1 each of the non-rotating Tanks (the regular ones, non of the special kits), 2 of the rotating (I've been watching ebay for literally YEARS to get the other 2), the sound Tower and the Godzilla and Mecha-Godzilla.
I'm the type collector that buys something, tries it out for a little bit and then puts it right back into their original boxes...But as you've very rightly pointed out, the batteries in these things (especially if they've been sitting) really NEED to be swapped out or just plain removed and left without the battery if they're going back into storage.
I dread the idea of taking my tanks apart, for fear of breaking something...But I dread the idea of having a completely dead Tank due to corrosion even worse.
I'm taking next week off for vacation, hoping I'll be able to get to my little preciouses and give them the attention they need.

epoxy, I do have some of my diorama pics on another site, along with a little short story of me and the wife battling it out..lol
Iam not sure what the protocol on this forum is about links to other sites. But I will try to see if I can round up some pics and get them posted in here.

Just use common sense and try to look at what you're posting from our perspective....If you were me and saw your post to another site? Would I think you were just trafficing people to the other site? Or just making a link to share something?
We're not so uptight about outside links here (except in some extreme cases).

@ Namuna, taking the tanks apart isn't so hard to do, i never broke anything doing this.
well, maybe some wires came loose, this as a first sign of the battery problem.
the copper wire seems to be the first to be "attacked" by battery fluids.
pretty hard to solder back onto the PCB these little wires,
but better than leaving them to rot away.
just remove two wheels by pulling them so you can access the two little screws underneath,
there is another (black) screw in the back of the underside.
remove the gearbox by putting a little friction on the two outgoing (drive) shafts,
you should be able to wedge it out easy.
removing the gears from the turretrotator is a little more difficult,
easy does it, don't loose the little white turret gear !
also take care not to loose the little screws, or the pins that hold the wheels in place,
these have a habbit of getting away somehow.
maybe a battery replacement sticky would be a nice idea ?
btw, all of my tanks in long term storage have the batteries removed,
just some have replacements so i can take em for a spin sometimes.
you do have a complete soundsystem WITH 4 cards ? lucky you
i still have only two of the combatcards.
@ garcol,
that would be great
@both,
don't know if common sense can apply to me when i even think there is
something on the web about combatdigiQ that i havn't seen yet. *laugh*
i'm trying to collect all good info before it disapeares from the net.
too bad the combatdigi fan's are sort of scattered all over.
i only know one other english language forum that had some post about combatdigiQ,
it hasn't been used for months now.

Alright, all 8; 4 1st gen, 2 rotating-turret, Godzilla and Mecha-Godzilla are now appropriately prepared for long-term storage. Who knows, maybe in the near future battery technology will be much better.
I was pleasantly surprised to see there was absolutely no corrosion on any of them, matter of fact they all looked pretty much brand new on the inside. BIG relief there.
I actually only have 2 Tank sound cards. Finding anymore has proven absolutely fruitless. I'm fairly confident that unless you live in Japan and have a network of people going door-to-door, this stuff just can't be found.

surprise
thanks namuna for sharing info.
to my surprise no leaks at all ? at least i'll bet they didn't charge anymore ?
so far i only got 2 of those out of +40 batterypacks.
i think it happenes when they are stored from the beginning and never used at all.
the cells just go to permanent hibernation.
usually they don't want to charge, and if they do they can't hold a
normal charge anymore.
i found that leaving the tank turned on has the same result on the batteries.
the NiMH batteries are already much better than in 2002.
KAN batteries also sells ready made 2x1/4AAA 80mAh packs for i think VStanks,
they could fit perfect in a digiQ.

Oh, man I have got to get on the ball and get my tanks done too.
Namuna, I keep an ebay search going at all times for , DigiQ, Combat tanks, Kanami, etc. You know the one that notifies you of anything on ebay within your search perimeters. It has brought up numerous things within the last couple of years.
Good to hear your tank batteries were ok. The batteries can be replaced, the pc boards would be a problem.
I too only have two sounds cards along with a tower, always searching for the elusive goodies...lol

it's been a long time since i've seen rotatortanks on ebay,
can't recall ever seeing combatdigiQ soundcards at all.
i didn't give up hope of ever finding more of them,
but it's not going to be easy (or cheap) to find them.
untill then i'll have to make use of the soundprogram for PC.
it works just as good btw.
if there is anybody who would like this too, i'll help you set it up if you like.
(the program is easy to use, only it's in german language)

Sound program for PC sounds very cool. If you want to start a new thread and do a Tutorial for what all is needed, directions for setting it up and how to use it...I'd be glad to make it a sticky in the Forum.

wow, sound like i'll have enough to do in the (near) future.
soundprogram's, burning PIC's for the IRcannon, rewriting tankROM's, ... lol
the only difficulty i see with the soundprogram is getting/buying the right receiver for your PC.
if i'm correct it's a LIRC receiver for connection with a comport,
i'll have to dig up the data somewere.
you see, i didn't build it myself, but the Ebay shop that sold me one has disapeared.
today it's all bluetooth i guess.
also i'll have to link to the german forum were you can download the program from.
but i'll guess that would be ok ?

it's a suitable almost rainy day overhere, why ?
i've just been checking the soundprogram stuff,
it seems most of it is gone.
it's like most things got removed from somebodies server ?
either they quit it all together, or it's become classified information ?¿?
i'll guess they didn't expect somebody would still like to download
it after all these years ?
maybe i'll better drop the guy(s) a note and see what's up.

I imagine you're talking about this forum page:
http://549.rapidforum.com/topic=1024...nd%2Caus%2Cdem
Considering the thread is nearly 4 years old, I'd say the software that was linked is long gone due to just routine cleaning of old/unused files off the Servers.
...I very HIGHLY DOUBT it's gone classified. If the tanks had gone mainstream and there was potential for money to be made then yes. But that was hardly the case with these very niche tanks.
If you're truly concerned and uncomfortable about sharing though, I would certainly suggest trying to get in contact with the original programmer to get his blessing...But I'd imagine he's probably long gone as well (but I see you're fairly active on that Forum too, so you'd know better than i! )
