casting resin

I recently came across this casting resin and i thought i would share it would yall, since it does have applications in TTTT. Its from a company called alumilite. ( www.alumilite.com ) They carry a "regular" resin that is a tan color, then a "water clear" and i think yall can figure out how that will come out.

They also carry mold making materials like rtv rubber ( i use their quick set rtv, works great ), clay, and even a 5 minute mold putty.

One major advantage to casting parts is if you have a part that you are using in one truck ( say a gear ) and you need to use it in another truck as well, but you cant find another one, you can cast a replica of it and (if done right) will be exactly the same as the original. Its also great for those hard to make parts or parts that are a pain to have to make over and over.

Alumilite also has great customer support. I would strongly recommend them to anyone in TTTT or any other hobby. I plan to use it in TTTT project i've had in my head, and if i do use it, i'll take pictures of how the parts were made. Hope this helped someone. If anyone has any questions about casting resin, feel free to ask.

Looks awesome, I guess the big question is "how much"?

actually its not to bad. Since right now we're talking about TTTT (small parts) you can get 16 ounces of clear resin for about $30 and the smallest tub of quick set rtv for about the same. Althought that may seem like alot, you could make dozens of molds and parts from this. I've mostly been making stuff for larger scale projects, but i've made 6 large molds and still have quick set left and have made at least two parts from each mold and still have about half the resin left. Plus the guys over at alumilite are great. They will help you with everything along the way. I recommend everyone at least go look at their website and read some of the stuff under "applications". Alumilite can do everything they mention there, and more. And if you find something that alumilite is not suitable for, the guys over at their forums can find a product that will. I'm not connected with this company in any way. I've just bought their product, used it, and had to get some help from their customer support on some mold making advice. I've never been treated better by a company. They really care about their customers.
