Question me too

there is a program for re-writing tankroms, if that's what you are looking for.
the "memory"of the chip could be erased when it was removed.
it could also have been damaged beyond repair.

i never got the rewriting thing working myself. (yet)

you need a pc with a com and parallel port,
a connector that will fit the 4 pins of the tankrom,
a conector for the parallel port, some pieces of wire suitable for the connectors.

and a software program, here is the real trick,
that you have to download from rc-micro.de.

realy interesting stuff there, but reading german language is hard for me,
i do read some german, but the technical slang gets the better of me
most of the time.

some electronics wizzkid could get it to work easy, i'll bet *laugh*

after all, i did get the soundprogram working, so someday i will try this
chiptuning thing too. i just need one more ingredient,

time.

Talking *lol*

btw, how bad did you "punish" the person who pulled the chip ?
*laugh*

Lightbulb maybe

any chip of the same type will work with your tank,
it happenes that the tanks breakdown beyond the point of repair.
so there must be some chip somewere without a working tank,
i know i have some spares by now.

maybe you could find a cheap deal on a defective set somewere ?
that way you have some spareparts too.

still haven't got the romwriting thing working unfortunatly.
but at least the hardware seem easy enough.

Lightbulb maybe˛

there is also a protocolviewer program that "reads" the signals from the controller,
you could use it to check if the controller is still sending signals with the bad chip.
that way you can rule out defects in your tank itself.

Smile more runes decrypted ;)

found out another thing today,

the internal ronchip of the tank has a indentification parameter
that says what type of tank type it is,
possibly if you charge your tank with the powerswitch on
it could be changed by accident.
the tank won't match with the romchip from the controller in that case.

back to jinjinweiwei,
it figures that the controllerchip must have it's tanktype parameter too somewere,
it too could have the wrong parameter setting ? maybe this could be the problem ?

in that case you could try the controller rom with a different type of tank.
( if you got any ) and see if that works.

so there is a good chance your chip isn't dead entirely,
but just in a identity crysis.
don't throw it away just yet.

or was jinjinweiwei also talking about this tank not charging at all ?
that could mean there is another problem entirely.

com'on jinjin, give me something to work with
not to buisy here at all btw, does anybody still read this ?
is it still usefull to keep posting here about what i manage
to translate of the tech info from rc-micro.de ?
( these guys should get the credits for these nice ideas )

merry christmans almost!
thanks for helping me out.
right now i only have one tank, so i counldn't test with another tank to see if it will work or not. but if i turn the tank on and put it into charge mode the red light would blink, so i guess the power is going through, but it doesnt charge at all

Red face hi

charging with the digiQ turned on is also a bad thing,
the software of your tank might get "damaged".

the blinking red charginglight on the controller could mean 3 things:

1. the AA batteries in your controller are drained too low.
2. the internal 1/4AAA tankbatteries are history.
3. some other problem.

does your tank still blink at all when you turn it on ?

best thing is to open up your tank and visually check the batteries.
remove the shrinkwrap from the batterypack to have a good look.
look for any "salty" looking crystals on the batteries or worse,
on the PCB soldering points.

if it all looks normal, you could use a voltmeter to check if the batterypack
still holds and voltage at all.

if you got a "older" non-rotator combatdigiQ you should seriously be thinking about new
batteries. the older start to leak at sometime.
so far i had 6 tanks damaged beyond repair in this way.

after i read what you wrote, i think my tank has turn into a static model for now (internal batteries have crystal around on the welding part) =/ till when i hunt down the internal batteries.

as long as the batteries have not leaked over the electronics,
it's not a real problem. just dispose of the battery and replace it.

i've had some bad cases myself. (see thumbnails)
this combatdigiQ is now a static model

if you think or can see the battery has leaked on your electronics,
you can tell by the soldering points on the electronics oxidizing and turning
gray -ish.
specially directly under the batteries and where the red wire
from the battery is attached.
remove the whole lot from the tank hull by desoldering the chargingpoints.
some say water with a little soap will work just fine,
but wash it off as best you can. maybe distilled water is a good idea ?
let it dry, solder it together again, and keep your fingers crossed.

hopefully it's not that bad, but take a good close look,
the chemicals from the batteries will keep eating away for some time.

but if it looks as bad as the thumbnails, never mind.

terrible ?

why is it terrible to get into here ? ?
i guess most digiQ owners only check them once in a while.
and there is the danger.

having removed almost all of the original internal batteries of my digiQ's
out of my older 2002 sets ALL of them have started leaking more or less.
the rotatortanks were produced a little later,
so you could hope they would hold out a little longer.
check them out anyway.

conclusion:

the internal batteries must be removed or replaced by now,
they will start to leak and eat the PCB (if not already).
if nothing is done most oldstyle sets will not last till 2009.

please people, don't just let them rot away,
you could easily sell them on Ebay and at least get a little piece of your money back.

Red face IR cannon

i'm still working on the homebrew for the Q.
so i ordered for a PIC programmer to program the little chip.
for the stand alone IRcannon.

a cannon like that doesn't seem to hard to build,
but as a electronics n00b i wonder if i can get it to work.
programming the PIC12f675 seems to be the hardest thing to do at this point.

but i'dd realy like some bunkers "who shoot back" on my battlefield.

Sorry, didnt mean it to sound like it was terrible to come in here at all.
I meant that Iam terrible about checking in here very often.
Along with Iam terrible about checking my tanks tooo. Iam really going to have to get into them very very soon and be sure they are ok.

Keep us updated on your adventures, people do come in here from time to time and get "caught up" on stuff.

My diorama's have been folded up and put away for a bit now. I am going to have to get them down and set up and get some war's going..hehe

I was intersted in getting some stationary cannons going at one time as well. that would be soo cool in a good diorama. SO please keep up the efforts!

Good luck, and I'll try to keep getting back into here.
