they mini z pinions are too long and are smaller, I have a twelve tooth mini z gear and it is only as big as my nine tooth pinion.

Yeah I have the stage 2 set. I'm thinkin for trying other motors, and I don't want to end up messing things up trying to yanking those brass pinions off over and over.
Ok so it's not 48 pitch like the mini-z, does anyone know if it's 32 pitch or is it some oddball pitch then?
...and thanks for any info you might have.

Seems a bit expensive. For that much, I'd stick with sacrificing stage 1 motors. I'd want to see one that isn't press fitted.

I saw 42 pitch pinions available for the Micro RS4. It might be what we need, though they were $8.00 each, so I'm hesitant to try one. They are titanium, and not press-fitted.

I use an 11 tooth 48 Pitch Slot car pinion with the RED drag Drive gear in my XMOD with no problem. Pinion cost $2 US from "Trains and Lanes" it's a hobby store. But I'm sure any Slot car type place will have these gears. The Pinion puller cost more at $9

But is it actually the same as the XMods pinion, or is it just "close enough." Because "close enough" doesn't cut it when you are trying to reduce drivetrain losses to the bare minimum.
Can you post a pic next to the stock 11 tooth pinion for comparison?

Sorry I can't post pics, no Digital camera. only difference I see between the stage 2 11 tooth and the 11 tooth I bought from a hobby store, is the Stage 2 is longer by at least 1/16" and the stage 2 pinion is brass. The one I have is steel. I do have a 12 tooth brass pinion but it's a little chewed up, and I didn't want to chance it....

found this page: http://www.schafergear.com/chicagogear/gear_info.html
there's a formula to determine the diametrical pitch.
P = (N + 2) / OD where P = pitch, N = number of teeth, OD = outer diameter in inches.
using my stock motor, i've found this:
N = 8, OD = 6 mm = 0.2362 inches
P = (8 + 2) / 0.2362 = 42.337002540220152413209144792549
or 42 pitch.
now all we need are some cheap non press fit 42 pitch pinions

I saw that page, or one like it... that's how I came to the conclusion that XMods use around 40 pitch.
I've ordered a couple of the ridiculously expensive titanium 42 pitch pinions. If they work, it also opens up the possibilities of taller gear ratios, as they are available in 13, 14, and 15 tooth, as well as 10 and 11.

i looked through all of towerhobbie's pinions and found no 42 pitch pinion and even if they did, it wasn't specified in many of the pinions i saw that looked like it would work
