Why Zips perform better...

Zips handle better because...

1. The surface area of the tires are thinner than the bit and give less resistance.

2. The tires are fullsize which give better handling on the front end.

3. The car is 1/64th in scale so steering is improved because there is greater distance between the front and rear wheels. (The turn begins farther ahead of the rear wheels, giving smoother "follow thru" with power and steering) <- for lack of a better way to express the physics of the effect.

4. ZIpZap motor RPMs are all optimum torque motors (betw 1.6-2.35) , which make a considerable difference since there is slightly more car to push.

Also, here is an excerpt from my previous post on why Zips match up and slightly edge out Bits in many ways...

<--begin quote-->

Well I got mine a few days ago and I think they are great! Here are just a few reasons...

PROS:

-Real tire tread patterns (3 diff patterns)
-real rims, not cosmetic but actually 1/2 of the rim!
-1/64 scale. Means compatibility w/slotcar bodies
-better scale design, no cutesy factor
-heatsink (motor cover) secured w/screw
-controller has a strap
-possible ac adapter upgrade for controller
-$20 price tag
-smoke tinted plastic body for real tint windows
-longer frnt axle strut (more play, better for springs)
-motor end terminal centered for best contact
-comes with micro screwdriver
-thicker paint layer less prone to scratching
-dual spoilers
-space for 2 cells under pcb (with mod)
-high quality plastic casting
-excellent packaging (blister pack)
-complete accessory kits include everything!

CONS:

-bodies sit too high
-controller buttons recessed
-short antenna
-short range
-car antenna has specs printed along sleeve

Important to note that these are not OEM clones! They use a completely different PCB and 1/64th chassis. This is a different car that uses the same underlying technology... This variance warrants a separate patent and therefore does not infringe on Tomys copyright. Overall solid car and will give tomy run for money esp because modification parts and accessories are superior. Just my opinion...

Radio/Non-proportional

Tandy is a big Radio Shack brand, so I imagine that your Tandy could have something to do with our Radio Shack. Dunno if they're coming out over there tho...

Hurry up and find more flaws to these ZipZaps, I don't want to see em' overunning Bit Char over here just when I bought my first Bit and I'm gettin myself into this hobby with the JDM and import type mind.

Seems that the Zips are ruling out the Bits in performance.

Bits where the originals......ZZ's are just competitors. You can always use ZZ parts to upgrade you Bit char-g......so no worries. ALso because of the smaller size of the Bits i've heard that they are faster and because of the weight gain of the ZZ's they are slower. So they pretty much even out...they all have their good and bad parts of each other.

PS u can race more with Bits because of the 4 frequencys...

Really good point about the frequency... That is a MAJOR limitation. Better to have 6 frequencies than only 2.

You don't get 6. 27 MHz is the same for both. AS for 49 MHz, it can interfer with 47 MHz. These things happen. Convert a few Bits over to IR and have 8 racing at once. BAE

OMG! a 7th frequency! YAY!

27/35/40/45/49/57 - official 6 frequencies (all officially licensced products.

breakdown by availibility (intl markets):

27/35/45/57 - JP,HK (BitChar-G)
40/49 - AUS (Compact Char-G)
27/49 - US (MicroSizer)

I have never come across a 47mhz Bit! Where did you find this?! Please list model number and brand and where bought if possible! This is a great find! That would mean 7 frequencies total!

There is no 47MHz, he probably meant 45MHz.

Sorry to nitpick ya QFM, but the Aus Compact Char-g is 27MHz and 40MHz.

And as far as doing the IR PCB swap, you could do up to 4 cars (for IDs 1 to 4)...So inactuality, that's up to 10 cars in a race.

I beleive the clone BitChar-A has a 47 freq. My first car was a 57 mhz silver skyline through them. I can't say It's the greatest but it got me interested.

Tandy Corporation owns/owned RadioShack as well as Incredible Universe and a few other businesses, though I believe in the US the name was changed to RadioShack Corporation since they have long since canned the other businesses.

I'm sorry. I meant 45 MHz. I didn't want to over-excite anybody.
We tested a student's zipzap against my Bit. Steering is better. It is a tiny bit larger. There is room for a second battery under the deck. Just get a little creative with moving the caps on the bottom of the RX deck. I'll be getting a few for myself. I like the NOS cars. The movie was funny enough too. BAE

Yep in the U.S. its Radio Shack. They change their name a few years back.

Was wondering why no one has suggested using the extra space for a battery for lights and even add in the electronic to do turn signals etc? Be clearner than sticking it on top. Well just a though.

Hum... If you use the iRacer format you can have 5 different cars racing.

If the regenative receiver was replaces with a more narrow band receiver you could get a few more cars to race. With the ZZ they may be room to put a NE 602 mixer with a tiny crystal feeding the RX2 { if thats is what is under the goo }. Else could switch one car instead of a modulated RF to IR. The chips set description leads one to it may be possible.

PS: For giggle, what was Tandy's orginal product line?
