Project Gallardo

Ok kids, I thought I'd take a crack at this. Since Kyosho always seems to produce their Lamborghini's in green and yellow, I just had to see some traditional Lambo orange. Since Kyosho finally released the first two bare bodies being the Gallardo and the Audi R8 I figured I'd give it a try. I'll use this post blog style as I get time to post updates.

These pics are from my iPhone 3Gs so the color and brilliance don't come through as well. And the orange peel looks way worse than it is and the color tone is much darker in the pics. The paint is pretty smooth and shiny. Since this is not a shelf queen, I'm not gonna buff out the paint and polish it, but I will be adding details soon.

First up, my new airbrush toy (Iwata HP-C Plus), and the sweet paint stand I made.

Here are the best shots I could get for now. The paint recipe:

--wash, scuff, wash, scuff, wash, dry body
--4 coats Tamiya polycarbonate white as a base coat (stuff is strong)
--4 coats House of Kolor Tangelo Pearl Orange urethane mix 2:1 w/ RU311
--4 coats Tamiya clear

Even thought I hate the scale and "ride" of the dNano dummy chassis' I thought I'd test fit for kicks. I did a quick shot of the "brake rotors" In Tamiya silver depth "fun".

And one last shot where I tried like heck to get some sun angles to show how nice the pearl was. You can _almost_ see it here.

I just noticed that the 911 is also available as blank bodies. I hope more to be released. Nice work, looking forward to finished product!

I wouldn't mind doing a dark blue Gallardo.

OMG this is a work of art my friend. I am about to start my first ever paint job (on a Heller model, not an ASC body), so I'm appreciative of all the ideas you've already given me, and any other tips you might have!

Yea same here

Btw people prefer gallardo over murcielago because of the RM motor?

If anything like the Mini-Z's, people prefer MM over RM's. I prefer the Murcielago over the Gallardo.

So the latest is I kinda screwed up the detail brush painting and didn't want to show close ups. Seriously this was the last straw with my failing near eyesight and I now am the owner of prescription reading/dNano-working glasses I think it can be touched up carefully and I think I can do it. I will post what happens. Go figure it was dNano that finally forced me to get this done after all these years.LOL

It would be a shame just to be a beater body because the overall look and shine is nicer than stock Autoscales so that was kind of promising. Heh, you should have seen one of my Mini-Z McLaren's. I took it to the local autobody shop and he did the urethane clear... OMG it looked awesome. I got pic somewhere if I can dig it up.
