Mini Jeep

Hey,

i got a model at a local craft shop for $8 bucks,
it was a 1975 JC-7 model, then i looked at my Zip Zap MT and i came up with a project, its gonna be cool when its all done, full interior and using the chassis itself.
i made the rear solid axle tonight, tomorrow im going to try out the front and see what i can ame, but no i gotta make a trans, o well the zzmt gears were way overgeared. so heres the pics of what i got done on it tonight.

THE FRAME BEFORE I STARTED TO HACK IT ALL UP

THE FRAME AFTER I HACKED IT UP

THE REAR ZZMT AXLE AFTER I REMOVED ALL THE PLASTIC FROM THE TOP OF IT

THE AXLE SITTING ON THE FRAME BARLEY WIDE ENOUGH BUT WILL HAVE A LIFTED LOOK WHEN ITS ALL DONE

THE FRAME WITH THE BODY ON, AXLE WIDTH IS PERFECT

HOW THE WIDTH LOOKS FROM THE REAR

HOW THE TIRE LOOKS INSIDE THE REAR WHEEL WELL

HOW MUCH SPACE I HAVE TO STUFF A FRONT AXLE AND TRANS IT ABoUT 1.5*1.5 IN

ALL THE SCALE GOODIES THAT ALSO CAME WITH THE MODEL, WHINCH,FUELCANS,REAR TIRE RACK, YAY :excited:

Let me know what you all think so far.

Love the CJ-7

Bigger tires and more lift!!! Come on, you know it needs some scale 33" superswampers and some skyscraping lift!

So what kind of terrain are you planning on setting it up for? Is it getting any kind of suspension?

im hoping to set it up for trail/rockcrawling use.
its gonna get a 4 link front and rear with coil overs.
its gonna be a pain to make the 4-link, links themselves beacuse i gotta find ball ends or something that small(prob use mini-t ball ends if their not to freggin huge,
hopefully tonight i can get the front axle all glued up and finished so i can start on the center trans which will be a nightmare.

Mini-T ball ends would probably work pretty good
they arent too big either. The outer diameter of the ball cup is smaller than 1/4 of an inch. O, and if I may recommend anything, it would be to get titanium tie rods because the stock Losi ones bend really easy. But, that may not be too much of a problem since your zip-jeep-zap is a lot lighter than a mini-T and will not feel the same amount of force.

the shadow in the picture makes it look a tiny bit bigger than it really is

the shocks are from a GEN 1 xmod and the u-joints are from a Superslick MT from Toys R Us.

Update time
got the front axle all finished up,
just gotta get some springs and links to finish up the front.
got an idea of how the drivetrain is gonna work,
just like the father jeep, will have the motor under the hood, and a transfer case in the middle.
the frame is now glued to the body and the hood will open also instead of glueing it all together and not being able to work on it.
still gotta find some plastic thick enough to make the transfer case and trans out of.
but the transfer case will be mounted to the skid plate i found in the kit, instead of being glued it im gonna screw it in.

Pics

How the power will get from the trans to the transfer case.

were the stock 2 cell battery will be mounted, might convert to a 3 cell setup :ideas: .

The skidplate where the transfer case will be mounted.

The front axle all driveshafted and recieved u-joints

lookin good you should put a switch in the transfer case to switch in and out of 4wd. that would be pretty cool and realistic. (might be kinda hard tho)

keep up the good work!

AWESOME so far! I'm in love with the U-Joints! Must...get...U-Joints...

It will be interesting to see if it actually moves when it's all said and done. Getting everything perfectly alligned, with very little slop in the drive train, I suspect, will be difficult. Hope all goes well!

Its update time again

the transfer case is almost done, just gotta make a hole in the other side plate to let the power shaft into the transfer case.

The LEDs in the front headlights done tonight also since i wanted something to do while the glue dried

the rear end all finished finally, time for the front

hopefully soon i can have the front finished and work on the trans, and im going to hobby grade stuff now since the crap is junk since its not proportional.

Let Me Know What Ya All Think,
Nate
