AWD Trouble
I got AWD a couple weeks ago and it worked fine, a little tricky install but I got the hang of it really quick. But I took my car for a spin yesterday and I tried to get a little drift action going, but my car was doing spin outs instead of drifting, similar to back when I had just RWD. So I picked up the car and made sure that all the wheels were spinning when I punched the throttle..all were, but it seemed the fronts weren't spinning hard enough. So i put the car with the front half on the sidewalk, the other half suspended so I could test if the front wheels were doing their part. Aha, the car couldn't even pull itself onto the sidewalk with it's fronts, though it used to be able to. So of course I took the car apart. I found that the front cone gear wasn't making good contact with the differential, and it even lost contact with it whenever I leaned the car slightly left or back. So, I reinstalled everything, making sure all of the spacers were in and what not (the car is very clean and is always lubed). But still I have this problem. The cone gear doesn't make contact at times because I believe the red differential wobbles (there is a small amount of play). I have taken apart the AWD system multiple times, trying to fix this, but I still can't freeze the front differntial. The cone gear doesn't seem to be damaged or anything. I am thinking of glueing the differntial to the right cup joint, but I really would like to avoid this, as I take the car apart a lot. Again I'll state that I have all the spacers in, the car is clean, it's just that the differential moves so the cone gear can't make contact. I also note that the cone gear has a small amount of play in it, but I saw that when I first installed it. So anyways, what do you think is my problem? I suppose I could start messing with differential screws, but I don't think that's where the problem lies.

1. did you put the little pin back in the differential? it should go into each side of the axles and through the differential.
2. and by spacers i think you mean the yellow bushings right? if you do put a washer behind the cone gear but in front of the bushing.
3. too much lube.

Pin is in place. Yes, by spacers i mean bushings, i couldn't remember that word. The washer idea is a great one. I think that's what I am going to do.
You can never have enough lube!
Has anyone else had problems with their AWD?

actually you can have enough lube. if you use oil you might want to protect the electronics. but i use vaseline to lube all of the gears.
