DRIFTERS ... anyone ever seen a Hirobo DRICON

DRICON = Drift Control

These are a few years old now (1998??), but a few are still out there.

Open Wheel 4WD Oval Car made specifically for DRIFTING.
(Forgot to mention these are 1/18 scale like the RS4 Micro)

Made and sold only in Japan, and sold Retail for $380 / set.

Set included Car loaded with full bearings, Radio Equip (Futaba MCR-2CS same as used in Tamtechs etc etc) and Lithium Ion Rechargable battery (gives drive time up to 90 min). Set came with full car prebuilt as above, Li Ion charger, 2 stick transmitter, decals, antenna tube, wheel nut tool and optional static model body parts.

Very cool and really fun. Understand these were made for oval racing only. "Limited Use" due to such a specific design purpose, was the reason for not marketing these stateside (per a Hirobo Rep that I talked to about these).

You can find some info on these via the Hirobo Japan sites:

http://model2.hirobo.co.jp/dricon/
or
http://www.curio.co.jp/02dricon.html

I have managed to collect 3 of these guys and I really like em. The car details are awesome (static model quality). Excellent build quality and lots of hop up options.

So for those of you who are DRIFTING TYPES, you are not the first crop of RCers to like this kind of racing. Our Japanese Hobby Colleagues beat us there about 6 years ago or better. Boy they did nice work too.

Check the site, you can see them.

They come in ready to run sets with Li Ion packs (up to 90 min run time) and full Futaba radio (Tx, Rx and Esc), and come in Maroon/Red, Blue or Sand/Tan.

They also sell cars sets (minus CRP and battery) in the same 3 RTR colors. I have also seen white bodies for sale for your own paint jobs. There are some sweet paint jobs shown on the Dricon site, but difficult to navigate without Babelfish.

They are really nicely done. Killer torque and pretty quick in straight line. Awesome drifting with all 4 tires churning non-stop.

They were never marketed stateside, because they have a steering bias to the left (meaning they do not have as tight a radius to the right). They knew American RC fans would not really go for that (at least they thought this), and decided to save the marketing budget. Their racing purpose was for left turn ovals only and the right turn capability was to be used for steering corrections.
