My first TTTT

I finally finished my first 1/87 scale tractor trailer. I posted a video on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNTAX...e_gdata_player

It's radio control using Spectrum 2.4 GHz transmitter and reciever. It also uses a Spectrum servo for the steering. The motor is a GM15 pager motor with a 25:1 gearbox. It runs on a 200 ma Lipo battery. It uses a modified servo board for the speed control. I need to build a better speed control (esc) because slow speed doesn't work as well as I would like.

I also want to add lights to it.

As you can see in the video, everything is housed in the tractor. One of my biggest challenges was finding small bevel gears. The ones i use now are from a
Rc helicopter tail rotor but I would still like to find smaller gears.

I made alot of the parts on my small Sherline CNC milling machine and my Atlas
Lathe (you could make the parts without a CNC machine but it would take a little
Longer.

I would be glad to post pictures of the internal workings if anyone is interested.

John

I'd like to see some pictures of your build.

I recently finished a 1:87 scale semi as well.

Onequiknova

I'll take some closeups later on and post them.

I also checked out your build and am very impressed.
Nice job!

I use a servo board as an esc but don't get very good low speed performance.
I'm planning on building a better one. It will also have some lighting circuits built in ( do you think i can add sound too! Lol).

Superb! Just curious: how much does it weigh?

Hi John,

Very nice model and neat machining, congratulations. It looks very scale, you have been able to fit everything inside the cab! I haven't seen a steering setup like this until now, it is one of a kind.

I hope you are still around as I have a couple of questions, and I hope I get to hear back from you on those. They are as follows
1. Does the front axle articulate, if not, do the rear axles articulate, in other words, how do you manage to keep all 6 wheels on the ground?
2. How do you like the current gear ratio, is it high, low or just right?
3. Where can one find the gear box that you have used, did it come with the pager motor?
4. What U-joints are they?
5. Do you have and make or part number of the bevel gears?
