Any way to block all these ads?

Is there anyway to block all these ads? I've noticed that all kinds of ads from Viagra to porn has been popping up on this site lately. They're kind of distracting, and have nothing to do with RC, and don't really belong here.

I'm with you on that one. It seems all I do is check this site for new posts because I know one or two will be from actual contributors while ten or so will be spam. That's every day! It's not just annoying, it's the bulk of what is posted on the forum since the upgrade. If not for Truckian keeping an eye out and all of the mods moving threads on a daily basis, this forum would be nothing but a huge spam site.
And the infraction system is useless against these spammers. The infraction system is meant to monitor posts by members who may get out of line every now and then. An Infraction system doesn't deter webbots.
I don't know what the solution is, but we really need to find one!

You could make it so people have to open an email before they have their account activated. Or do we have that already?

there are measure being tested or will be tested shortly to curtail the web bots from posting garbage spam. please, continue reporting and or moving spam to the appropriate forum if you have the permission. don't forget to use the infraction system as well.

I also have this problem on YourMicro, it seems when i log on there or like 5 spam threads which to me can be irritating, but for now all i can do is watch out for them and check the forum everyday and even during my lunch break at work.

this problem is not restricted to us but all vb forums. despite thier claims of secure registrations, it's commonly known web bots are actively defeating the security features. i am a mod on trc, 1-43, ym, mzr and hE and i find myself checking each site several times daily just to remove spam ontop of the normal moderator duties. it's just part of the job for us moderators really and something we should do our best to stay on top of if we want to keep the appearance of our forums clean.
namuna and the admin for all the sites are working on implementing some addtional security feaatures inorder to hopefully reduce if not eliminate the web bot spam that is hitting all of our sites. honestly, this and 1-43 seem to be getting hit the most. the banned list for 1-43 for example is several times larger than the legit member list.

hang in there and keep vigilant is the best i can offer right now.

Thanks for the work you do. I really do appreciate it, and I've learned a bunch from this forum. These things must be a pain.

you should start to see some improvement. we corrected some settings and enabled others to hopefully stem the flood of spam bots.
