ZipZap Monster Truck Questions

I would like to get a ZZMT but there are a few things I want to know first. Well, I went to RadioShack and they had a pack of motors and gears, and the highest motor was orange I think and it was called Racing. Is this the best MT motor? Can you put a Bit Char-G/MicroSizer/clone motor into a ZZMT with little or no modification? If so, would they have enough torque? Also, if I wanted to increase range, what would be the best things to do? Is the receiver's antenna like the ZZSE's? If so, what is the best kind of wire to replace it with? Is anybody doing MOSFET upgrades/turbo's for ZZMT's? If so, would you do them for MS's too maybe?

Currently, the orange motor is the fastest for the MTs that RS sells. I'm not sure about using the other smaller-type motors, but my first hunch is that they prolly wouldn't have enough torque.

The easiest non-mod method is to simply slip a small straw or coffee stirrer over the antenna. The straighter vertically that you can keep the antenna, the better your range will be.

The receiver antenna on the MTs is jut like the non-SE ZipZaps. The non-SEs use a thicker wire, whereas the SEs have a much thinner wire.

The bodies of the MTs on the other hand 'tho, have a smaller hole in the body for the antenna to slip through (just like the SE bodies do).

The reason that I mention this is that on a regular non-SE ZipZap you can rig up an antenna tube using regular 1/10 scale antenna tubing with a bit of heat-shrink tubing formed on the end of it, so that it fits snugly in the non-SE body's antenna hole.

On the SEs, the antenna wire and body hole is much smaller, and a regular WD-40 straw works perfectly. Being that the MT bodies are essentially SE bodies, but the antennas are using the non-SE antenna wires, you'll prolly need to drill out the body antenna hole a bit to accommidate something larger other than a WD-40 straw.

What type of controller do you have with the ZZM? Is it like the ZZ or the ZZSE.

The MTs have an oversized original (non-SE) Zaps' controller. The schematics are almost identical, except for the higher-rated components to support 4 AAA batteries (verses two in the original controller).

Matter 'o' fact, after charging your regular Zap on it's own supplied controller, you can drive it using the MT controller of the same frequency - I personally like the feel of the MT controllers, as they feel a lot more comfortable and smoother to operate for my big 'ole fingers LOL! -
