RealTracks & dNaNo on RealTracks setup tips

The dedicated dNaNo space will be completely done this Friday and open to all racers. Thought I'd post our findings so far with regard to RealTracks.

For us, we had to apply a liberal coating of simplegreen on the track surface in order to clean it from the manufacturing process. We let it chill for a while and then wiped it up with some micro-fibre cloths. Do not use papertowel as it will leave bits of dust in the track. Then for each day we're open, we simply mist the track and by the time we come back to the spot we started, it's ready to wipe up.

Grip was great once we did the above noted surface prep.

We've found that a box stock car only needs a front tire change to Kyosho 40s to work great on the surface. This has worked for the following cars which have been tested right out of the box with no upgrades other than front tires as noted:

-Mazda 787B
-Porsche 962C
-Ferrari FXX
-Nissan 350z GT5000 2007

We did find a problem with the Aston Martin DBR9. It seems to have a high roll center and changes direction very quickly. As such, this particular car requires some further testing.

I personally setup my car (Nissan 350Z GT500 2007) with PN 8 rear and PN front 45 and that combo works well too. In regard to this car, I also did the following upgrades which improved my lap times:

-bearing kit (kyosho)
-alloy front susp plate (kyosho)
-alloy rear hubs (kyosho)
-front hard springs (kyosho)
-rear medium t-plate (kyosho)

I was also using the stock gear diff (no grease).

During last week's test, I also decided to try out the kyosho adjustable ball diff. I found that I had to rebuild the diff as one side was slipping. This is a common problem with mini-z diffs as well. So I disassembled and sanded down the diff rings and glued them to the delrin housing and reassembled. Diff worked great after that. I found though that the car now pushed like mad so switched up to hard t-plate and dialed in more steering on my controller (EX-10 Helios) [note I was originally at 40% steering travel and needed to go to 100% after diff upgrade]. This allowed me to regain most of my steering. The diff is using the stock 2 spacer setup. I will be playing with diff settings this coming Friday and provide some further feedback which will involve changing the stock kyosho spacers to PN spacers and the stock diff spring to kyosho F1 rear shock springs.

Bottom line, we recommend RealTracks for dNaNo use. The fact that a box stock car with only front tire upgrade will work great on the surface is just what a beginner needs, let alone someone with a tight budget. Then, if someone wants to go faster, they can upgrade like what I've done.
