Sorry for asking but what exactly does the carbon fiber chasis do? And what improvements does it make?

Awsome work on the chassis, I might get one of those. How much do you think they would be if you sell them???

I was thinking of making the same thing out of aluminum, but i think the Carbon Fibor would be better.

I'd like to see that, along with the ability to stretch the wheelbase about two more settings. (The driveshaft front mount would need extra holes so that it could be moved back) This would allow me to mount that Z06 body I want so bad...

viperkilla, the carbon fiber is lighter, stronger and very high tech looking.

neurokinetik, I have a vette body that I need a longer chassis for and I was thinking of making an add-in piece to stretch the chassis .I cant just add a few more holes because the diff housing is in the way, you wouldnt be able to use the shortest wheelbase settings.

I got rid of the picture and just added a link to my picture album.

Does anyone know of a free picture host?

One thing that I think may be possible is to eliminate the back plastic rear plate entirely. It would just need cutouts for the idler gear and differential. Yes, you would lose the ability to adjust wheelbase, but you could make one solid chassis that way, and it would likely be lighter. You would need two or three different chassis designs, but I think that altering them in something like AutoCAD would be a snap... To make the whole chassis lighter, I'd do away with the little air slots for the ESC, and replace them with a mostly open design in the middle with a few crossbraces. The cooling would be better and weight would be reduced without sacrificing chassis strength.

Other ideas...

The front A Arms could also be eliminated by making a top plate that extended in their place, and use small springs above the steering knuckle for suspension instead of the useless fake dampers. I also think the rear suspension could be simplified and lightened by going to a monoshock between the top damper attachment points. A swaybar could probably be fabbed up to work with this setup as well.

Your a smart one neurokinetik, excellent idea's

The cross braces have already been eliminated from my currrent drawings and you gave away an idea that I havnt seen mentioned yet but that I intend to include in a chassis kit.

I had thought about eliminating the stock rear piece and I could still make a seperate piece but the stock one is very compact and I actually like the stock one.

I have to remember to stay on focus. My focus is to make a lighter, stiffer chassis with some real speed and handling mods all the while still using a good majority of stock Xmod parts.I wanted to lose the stock battery holders but have decided to keep them since I want this to be as compatible as it can be.

This project is actually very tough because I have to find a good balance.I just want to enhance this car, not remake it

Sweet idea, I think its awesome that you wanna add your own edge to the X-Mods chassis, its something I would never even think of messing with. Keep us posted, this ones got my curiosity going wild.

The chassis is coming along nicely.I have made several minor changes and I only need to get the battery boxes set in a way I'm happy with then I can cut it.

man, all this nice work is tempting me to learn how to make my own Carbon fiber panels and start building stuff

From my understanding it's a layer of CF, optional mat, and another layer of CF, with layers of epoxy between them. Of course, it's going to be harder than it sounds, but it might be fun to mess with too

mustang_steve,
I'm just cutting a chassis out of a flat piece of material at this time.

It's going ok so far (its still cutting at this moment) but I do see one little thing that I have to change but its no big deal.I started cutting at 4:30 and it looks like it will take another couple hours anyway.
