a D battery would be awesome!!! But i don't think the power:weight ratio would be very good.

A D battery wouldnt be awesome, it'd be 1.5v and loadsa weight...but it WOULD last a long time!
You could do this 6V mod as a sleeper using two little 3V watch cells. Would be hella fast, and would fit in the car. Bit expensive though as they wouldnt be rechargable.
