OK...here goes:
1.6: Kitten Motor
2.2: Bobcat Motor
2.4: Panther Motor
2.6: Tiger Motor
2.8: Cheetah Motor
The cool thing is that as more motors are added, they could be brought in with similar designations...e.g. Puma motor, Leopard Motor, Lion Motor, etc.
Just my 2/100ths of a dollar!

2.4 = the .8 x3 (lol)
2.6 =the M-N-M (matrix in motion)

Oh, and my motor names. Note - All of em end with rotor, because like Mage said, it just sounds better. Lol, you can change that anyway!
1.6 - Ox Rotor
2.2 - Python Rotor
2.4 - Trinity Rotor
2.6 - Eagle Rotor
2.8 - Thunder Rotor

Sorry if I'm not getting into the spirit of this, but why not just call them what they are?
Two letter hyphonated add-on? Like, MX-3.0 for example.

1st entry: (Dunno bout these)
1.6- Cruzin Rotor
2.2- didnt have anything
2.4- Lightside Rotor ( I know, i know, very cheezy, kinda a joke)
2.6- TopSpec (Top Prospect)
2.8- PDF Rotor (Pretty Damn Fast)
2nd Entry- ( I think these are a little better)
1.6- LRS Motor (Low-end Rotary Speed)
2.2- M-TeC ( Micro-Technology)
2.4- ESA Rotor (Equal Speed and Acceleration)
2.6- T-SpeC ( Top Prospect)
2.8- HRS Motor (High-end Rotary Speed)
