Arch,
Explain a little about your axles.

Are you going to use the axle that the gear is on? If so, why press it off? If not, what do you mean by 'stock' axle?

I ask because I am not sure which axle you have the wobbly wheel on.

The answer to fix the wobbly wheel can be ultra simple, like glue (and hope it stays centered). Or it could be more difficult like using a larger diameter axle which might involve dilling out the gear to match.

I guess I never really asked you what your drivetrain would be. Can you eleaborate?

sorry, the faller axel is slightly to short

so i have to pop it off the faller axel, which i haven't been able to do so far, and slide it n the stock roco axel. that is the axel that one of the wheels has become wobbly.

i'm not oppossed to using a new, slightly larger diameter axel only i can't find steel rods that small, not to mention almost impossible to find metric stock anywhere.

i had an idea to use a new slightly larger diameter axel with threaded ends so i could screw on/off the wheels. but i can't find the materials and don't have the tools. any chance you have the ability to do this?

I cant thread rods smaller than 1-72. I can tap holes smaller though.

I think the glue is the best bet. In fact, use high stregnth Loctite that you can find at any auto parts store. It is strong enough for TTTT but is not perminent like CA. Shake the tube well and just use a drop. I think the wheel wobble is a minor thing and it can be put off until you are almost done.

To press the gear off the shaft, try to hold the axle vertically on the workbench, then use pliers above the gear and push down. do not pinch the shaft with the pliers, just close them enough that they make good contact with the face of the gear and try to push down evenly. It should come off. Put some steady force behind it.

You could also try tapping with a small hammer. Use the tubing method like I told you to do with a vice except hold the shaft in the longer tubing vertically. Then instead of using the vice to press, use the hammer. Put a peice of brass or a penny in top of the shaft and hit the penny so the shaft wont mushroom as you tap with the hammer. I vise woulkd definitly come in handy here, just as a third hand.

I know the Faller axle is not long enough, but it is the same diameter as the Roco shaft?

yes, the faller axel appears to be the same diameter as the roco axel.

i'll have to stop by the hardware store one night this week to pick up the high stregnth Loctite. i need it anyway for all the screws/nuts/washers. the vibrate loose constantly.
