messing with gearsets is pretty much pointless. keep the stock ones on.
have you put a second battery in? your car aint nothing until you do.

Thanks hog...do you have some suggestions as to clone motors that are torquey? I have considered butchering a couple of LXX cars to make this locomotive, using dual cells and dual motors. What kind of aftermarket motors would you suggest (ones that are packaged seperately from a car "kit"?

hog...I have not recieved the MS yet...and I will use two batteries if it gains me torque, but I have to be concerned with speed. This needs to be low speed/high torque.
Thanks for the suggestions.

why low speed?
i go for high speed/high torque/great handling

Thanks Pie...I will try the 1.6 motor(s).

buy any "super racing" "panther" "shen que wei" "cyclona" or whatever they all have better motors than tomy. especially in the torque department.

Re: I need torque, not speed!
- 12:1 Gearset, "Torquiest" for sure
- 1.0 or 1.6 definitely as the motor (no need for a BULLET train right?)
- Consider getting a Booster car! When you're first pulling out of the Station (from a standstill) you can jam the boost button until you get a steady run going and then let it go back to unboosted for normal travel.
In Boosted mode, the PCB lets through a good amount more current (which equates to torque) vs. a stock MS
This sounds like a fun project for you and your young'un...Good luck with it!

Thanks Type...this is probably the route I will be going. Fabricating a fake axle that does not drive was a dumb idea on my part. Will probably find a couple of LXX clones, make it dual motor/dual battery (maybe need to Pot the speed down some.)

my apologies
i didnt read about your train getup. i would suggest finding "thunderbolt" racing cars or the "thor" ones that aint yellow. they have hardwired motors that are exactly what you are looking for. high torque with absolutly horrible top end. two of them with two batteries will let you pull just about anything.

Thanks Namuna...I wonder "how" the Boosted mode works technically. Could a person put a dual motor/dual battery on a Booster car (with low gears) and get the same effect of torque-boost from both motors and batteries? Does any of the LXX clone line (to save on cost and not screwing up a original Tomy/MS car) have a boost mode that is effective?
Last question. Is there any way to boost current directly from the PCB rather than relying on a second battery for the current boost (a second battery, I'm guessing, also increases speed, along with torque)?

Hog...thanks again for the responses...the train locomotive needs to be relatively slow to stay on the wooden track. The track (which is a Brio/Thomas the Tank Engine type) has a pair of fairly shallow grooves and the curves have no banking, so slow speed is necessary to keep the train on the track. Handling is not important except that it must be able to turn at a track crossover to get to a secondary part of the track. I figure the steering must move 15 to 20 degrees in order to get the locomotive to switch tracks.
