Yes, you can pop the hood off as well as the spoiler as it is the same model used in the Trueno Tune-Up kit and the Initial D set, cept' for the smoke grey plastic.

I would mask the black stripes carefully (I use lab masking film which is stretchable and easy to shape, but it needs some extra effort to stop paint bleed).

Or, I could strip as much paint as possible and paint a coat of red first, then go for the black stripes.

Well, I would suggest that you don't use 'regular' masking tape to cover painted areas. I assume you're gonna get a panda trueno to red right? If so, in that case, you can mask over the black stripes. Make sure you get something like the rounded end of a pen to secure the edges so the paint won't bleed right through.

Well, good luck on your project. Hope you will be able to post some pictures of your finished product (i wouldn't mind the stages ). As for me, I'm still trying to fix a painting error I made (feel so embarrased) I forgot to use PRIMER!!!!! Gah, I'm gonna knock myself in the head!!! Plus its white I'm trying to achieve (white will not work without primer guys, trust me).

I'm not so sure, I usually go with 3-4 light coats, waiting for each coat to dry before applying the next one; and I do stress the word "light", I have no idea what overspray would do to you.
