I guess...

Since Chevy isn't making the competitionn anymore (at least not currently...and you all know how many rumors are flying about new F-bodies), Ford doesn't have to worry about aesthetics. They have the only real muscle cars on the market. The Mustang, and the Marauder. There are other fast things out there, but these are the only ones that fit the bill (save maybe the Vette...but who can afford those anymore?).

I really don't like it, but it may grow on me. The current version was like that. It was too "angly" for me when it came out. But with time, I got used to it, and eventually even liked it. Still, when this is the company that brought out another retro design (the T-bird) that just had everyone's jaw dropping, you'd think they could do a bit better with a Mustang retro look.

Sigh...at least the Marauder looks cool, he he he.

I don't care about what everyone says, I think Mustangs are the best. My mom bought her 1996 mustang cobra in 1996 and we only had 1 problem with it and it was something with the seats. Other thatn that it has been my mom's dream car. She always wanted a red convertible sports car and now she does. All I know is that Mustangs rule and Camaros drule, thats all I have to say.

Hey watch the Chevy bit!

I'm an admirer of all great cars. I'm mainly a Chevy guy, but appreciate all good cars. I love Mustangs (though like I said...this version will need growing time). But really and truthfully, Camaros rock the pants off of Mustangs. As long as you're running equals I guess I should say (3.8L Camaro ~vs~ SVT wouldn't be fair...SS versus SVT would be...).

Probably the coolest move Chevy ever did in my book was keep the 3rd gen SBC underhead cam. Sure they're not quite as efficient at high RPM's, but the low end torque kicks butt. And with fuel injection, the torque is available all over the RPM range. The LT1 in my Caprice (2nd gen SBC) doesn't have a torque curve...it's a torque flatline at or above 300 ft.lbs. all over the place!

As for your Dad's cat problems, I've never heard of that happening. I have the original Kitty Cats on the Caprice (albeit, the B-bodies use two cats, and the F-bodies only one), and never had any problems. Is he using OEM cats, or some cheap knock-off?

Anyways, really and truthfully, this is about the new Pony's, so I'll quit now. Just had to defend my marque. Remember every company makes some good stuff, and strikes out on occasion!

Chris

The only Chevys I really like are the 1969 Camaro and the Corvette. My neighbor loves corvettes. He is a dentist so he got some bucks. He just purchased his 4th Corvette. He has this huge garage with checkard flooring. It is sweet. I think I am going to be a Dentist. You get to be your own boss and make tons :-)

my 2 cents

fords and chevys are actually reliable cars if they werent then they would probably wouldnt still be around my chevy is 37 years old and still runs great. the only thing i dont like about most fords and chevys is that they dont have the best handling in the world but hey im only driving in the city for the most part but i have to say my dads cougar handles nicely ill have to take pictures of the engine next time i recharge the camera we now have a 66 corvair, 94 cougar, and 2002 zn cougar

anyway i am wondering why some of the recent car models out have started going for this retro look such as the new thunderbird, pt cruiser, possibly the mustang?

i think ill just stick with whatever i can afford at the time

I said DISMISSED
Hey guess what, BRat. My dad can beat up your dad.

I like a lot of cars, including imports and domestics, and excluding F bodies. I've got a '92 Mustang that runs fine and does it for me (I looove the fox body) and my dad has a blown '98 Cobra that works for him. We don't particularly hate imports or Chevys, it's just that the Mustang offers a lot of good performance for the money. I especially like the SVOs. If I had more money when I was saving for my first car, I would've bought a used SVO in a heartbeat.

Ok, different topic. The new Dodge Neon SR/T turbo whatever thing is supposed to be pretty fast. Not quite as fast as a Mustang GT stock, but then again it's also under $20,000. On some other car forums there's been talk about how exhaust mods and upping the boost would probably get it into the 12's. Of course, it's no muscle car, but it's still pretty scary for Ford.

FORD = First On Race Day

That is one ugly concept though, but the detroit autoshow was some time ago that has to be an OLD concept, they best ditch it... its likly just a big hunk of clay any way .

I love it and I hate it. It is a very retro design, from the recessed headlights to the greatly exagerated tail lights. If you are familiar with older mustangs from the late 60's through the 70's you can clearly see the design cues that Ford was trying to incorporate. The only problem I have with it is they may have pushed it too retro, much like the thunderbird.

At certain angles it can look mean and muscular, and it is clearly reminiscant of the early mustangs which is definitely a plus but I am just not into retro.

I guess with the demise of the F-body Ford is willing to take the risk. Hopefully GM can keep Ford on its feet with the upcoming GTO (which shouldn't be too hard if they keep the price down).
