Well i have my dual setup already but was curious about the way you configured yours.
By the way what kind of tape do you use for your insulation?

Scotch tape, of course! I wired my charging plate to a 4AAA holder from radio shack. I just stick the car on and let it sit for a while to charge it.

No, but i am thinking it is my insulation. I am using a bit of a paper cup. I am not sure if it is holding up. But the contacts points were sliding around. I have to fid a way to secure them.
BTW, will any tape work as an insulator?

i use electric tape as my insulator and my contacts were sliding around from doing the batt mod so i put them into place and put super glue on the bottom of the chassis on the front holes where you can see the contacts but the charger does not touch them

OK, i have rewired my dual battery setup and i have modded the chargering process so that it bypasses the red light. I still have a prob. though. my problem is that the car works perfectly on the charger, but is dead when off the charger. any idea on what may be wrong.
I am confident that is is not my controller.
btw, i have a 3.0V custom charger

Hi ClearStorm,,,
You are almost there to 2 cell goodness,,,,,,
It sounds to me like there is a bad connection between the charging tabs to the 1st battery,,OR between the 1st and 2nd battery,,, OR between the 2nd battery and charging tab. The problem is one of your connections to the batteries.
The car works when it's on the charger because the charger's batteries are powering up the car,, and the NiMh cells are getting nothing (because of a bad connection somewhere). Remember that the PCB gets it's power directly from the charging contacts too.
just my .02

Thanks a lot, i will redo all the connections, and your explanation makes perfect sense. btw. would you think the scotch tape would have anything to do with it?
I will tell you if it works in a few days.
Thanks again

Hi ClearStorm,,
I think scotch tape is one of the WORST insulators you can use. If you don't find any bad connections,, you could have a short circuit due to the scotch tape as an insulator. If this is the case,, your batteries will get hot really fast when you charge.

What would you suggest other than electrical tape?

Hi ClearStorm,,
Will shrink wrap tubing fit where you need to insulate? If you want a quick and cheap fix you can probably tear up a match book and use the cardboard from the cover and wedge it in where you need insulation,, then tape it.

It works without being on the charger, but the car is slower than usual and doesn't turn to the right, but i think i can fix it. Thanks for everything Bunta and everyone else.
