well...im down but not out....i took my car 100% apart to paint the chassis....in the meantime i had planned to upgrade the wiring to 18 gauge...however...18 gauge is too big, and i dont want to drill the board, and i dont have any pin connectors...no XMODS action for me...till i solder those shi*ty stock wires back on...i love the look of the big fat wires...like the lith. kits...oh well....tomorrow's another day full of soldering and piecing my car back together...

well, i got her back together....and runnin great...i just dicovered the drifting possibilities on my garage floor....i can go from one end to the other and drift side to side....it just spins out sometimes though...should be better when i get awd

[edit]
Im thinking of using those "strut bars" on the rear suspension...does the cut down on the wheel hop that the xmods tend to have??

It just keeps the rear wheels from going into positive camber.

yes no more wheel hop, so smoother sliding. open differentials tend not to like it though.

He means any differential that is not the ball differential that comes with the AWD kit.

not quite.. open differential is your basic differential, basically what can happen is one wheel can be spinning and the other not spinning... too technical for me to explain lol. power is sent to the wheel with the least resistance.

just because a diff isnt the ball diff doesnt make it open. stuffing your differential can give it a vlsd effect or placing disc's can create a kind of clutch lsd. or you can lock your diff completely creating a 'welded'/locked diff. both wheels must spin at the same speed (thats why its much easier to break traction in a turn)
basically any diff that tries to limit the difference in speed between the drivewheels is NOT an open. lsd's and aftermarket stuff can make your car trickier to drive though since they promote understeer and oversteer.

That's right.

This only kind of works. The ball diff is much better.

I have read the threads about this, and this is not a differential at all. It's called a differential because the gears or balls inside allow power to be transferred between the wheels. Basically, when you turn, the outside wheels must spin faster than the inside wheels. An open differential tries to balance the power between the wheels through the gears or balls in it. A limited slip differential (lsd) does a better job of balancing the power, either through clutches or viscous fluid between discs. This mod is a kind of viscous link, but it is not a differential, because it does not balance the power between the wheels. It just kind of sends the power wherever it can go.

Locked or limited slip differentials tend to increase understeer. Why? Because the wheels have a harder time spinning at different speeds, which is absolutely necesary for turning a four wheeled vehicle. The reason why LSDs are so popular, however, is because it greatly increases a vehicle's predictability in a corner. With an open differential, it might grab and rocket you through the corner, or it might cause the inside wheel to spin uncontrollably. With an LSD, it's the same almost every time. Stomp the throttle, and you go. No questions asked.

Please, do not misunderstand me. I am not "owning" you. I am merely helping you to understand more about a subject you already seem to know a lot about, but are somewhat misguided. You may believe me, or you may not. The choice is yours, but do not flame me unless you want to get flamed back.

i dont understand the lsd part.."This mod is a kind of viscous link, but it is not a differential, because it does not balance the power between the wheels. It just kind of sends the power wherever it can go." i know these limited slips we try to make for xmods are very crude. but i dont understand how it doesnt balance the power.. i kinda have a thing against the ball diff esp in 2wd because you lose alot of power through it. please enlighten me on the lsd subject though.

i know how differentials affect handling in real cars. or at least i think i do. im actually sorta debating on buying a used 2way unit off a friend. i think it might be much for me...(i was refering to xmods though when i meant they are tougher to control, rwd wise mostly) rwd driving is a whole balancing act. its fun and i know have much to learn. it seems funny but i do try to use rc's to better understand 1:1 scale physics. i really appreciate the critizism though.

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear last night, it was VERY late for me. The main problem with this mod is that in certain situations, no power gets sent to the wheels at all. The case just spins around the discs. This is why you must do it in an AWD application, otherwise you'd never get anywhere. Seriously, try it in a 2WD setup once, and see how fast you can go if it's not fully locked. In *some* situations, this may be favorable, but not in any that I have experienced. At least not while bashing in the street. So, in the end, do whatever you want. Make your viscous link if you want. Feel good about it, too. I'll stick to my ball diff in my AWD Road/Race RSX, and my glued together stock differential in my Dragster '65 Mustang, and I'll feel good about it too.

you might not want to go all red springs.....it creates lots of body roll when your turning.....use like 2 blues and 2 reds

How do you mean two blues and two reds? If you put the blues in the front and the reds in back, you're gonna be really disapointed. I had mine set up like that for about 10 seconds, then switched to all blues. It understeers horribly with reds in the back. IMO, the blues aren't even stiff enough.
