Yep, when I put the awd kit in I gave the servo a good look-see. It looks like the original design had the the servo upright, look at the molded under portion of the front top chassis plate. But the servo that's in place is purpose built for with a step to clear the lower control board, and has the control arm in the lower position.
If the control arm had been on top, the throw would have been longer, hence more steering. There are also limit ears on the servo case itself. I wonder if these were cut off, would the throw go wider or would it throw so far as to come out of the tie rod slot?
Also if the knuckle slots were shorter, closer to the axle, then the throw would be magnified.
