What the hell does initial D mean?
I mean why don't they call it initial X? Would'nt that be cooler?Or triple x! And we could make it a movie! With (big screen closet case) Vin Deisel! Sorry but I do wanna know what's up w/initial D?

Initial D is a car racing story, it has comics, TV series and video games for playstation.
Initial D is one of the best TV series around lately.
They uses 2D & 3D CG (Computer Graphic) animation for the racing cars and there are lots of Super EuroBeat musics.
The main character Fujiwara Takumi is 18 years old, who has superior driving skills. His car a "Toyota AE86" is a Tofu delivery car he uses to deliver tofu to the other side of the town for his dad. In Japan, that car is considered as a no horsepower garbage, but with his excellent and CRAZY drfting skills. Takumi has won every challengers he had faced at his hometown "AKINA mountain."

He MEANT, how does the title fit the show? Whats Initial or D about racing cars in Akina? He wasn't asking WHAT it was.

I'm curious as to why they would call it Initial D? Whats that "D" stand for? Why not Initial T (for Takumi)?

Thanx 4 all the responses guys! Can I find an Initial D movie or show in English, or w/subtitles?And I wanted to know both what it was and what the initial D meant. Sorry for posting in the wrong place Tiny, but I never would have even known about Initial D if it were not for Bit Char G's

You can only get it in sub-titles right now here http://www.discountanimedvd.com/, it's where I've gotten all mine. Tokyo pop is supposed to be releasing an english dubbed version, but since they butchered the manga I would say stick with the subs.
As for the meaning... since no one has stepped up I'll give you my THEORY as to the meaning, again I do not not know what it means actually.
After watching all the episodes and movie, I can only surmise that;
D: Stands for Project D *you'll find out about it more when you watch the anime*, but the short of it is Project D is gonna be the title of the next installment.
Initial; Of, relating to, or occurring at the beginning.
Hence the name Initial D, *before Project D*.

Initial X??? I think there are too many X stuff tagged on to names.

The whole "X" thing was sarcasm. (even though I should'nt have to say it, but sarcasm directed to the money grubbing stereo typing movie makers).
