Question K.I.T. 7-tooth gear?

I've seen several people mention using the 7-pin motor gear from a KIT. But I found that on my Precious, that the KIT gear was too big, and pressed into the idler gear so hard, that the wheels couldn't turn. What's up with that?

I've picked up a second KIT car, so I might try trimming the spacer on one of the KIT axles to fit the Precious chassis. Anybody know what the gear ratios are for the KITs?

hmmm the 7 tooth fits perfectly on my KIT 2.6 with any kind of TOMY idle/axle gears (in a bit Char-g)...i know that clones are NOT made the Exxxxxact same, cuz my shen motor wont fit in my Bit...

try spacing the motor away from the gears with a little slip of paper folded in half...

the gear ratios are extremely tall... 6.57:1 for the green ones, 3.95:1 for the red ones, and 4.57 for the dark blue ones.. i could be VERY wrong, but it's all in that range somewhere... and they're all much taller than tomy/clone gears, which are usually 9.81:1...

Hmmm.... Maybe it's just a problem for the Precious, then. I just picked up a Micro Sizer today, so I'll try it on that chassis later on, whenI can find time.

ahh yeah, it Should work on the microsizer, EXCEPT the motor well is too small for the gear.... and you still gotta take some paper and fold it up, pushing the motor closer to the front of the car to prevent the gear from rubbing the chassis...

hope that helped!

I just tried it in my new MicroSizer, and I still have the same problem. That 7-tooth KIT gear just has a bigger diameter than the standard Bit gear. I was able to get the motor to spin if the heat sink isn't snapped in all the way, giving the motor a little play.

It fits just fine in my ZipZap, though,

Later on, I'll see if I can just file the ends of the gear teeth down a little bit, to make it fit my Bit chassis.

lol, again, stick a spacer in between the motor and the rear wall of the chassis... so that the motor is pushed forewards a bit...

it works great, and my 7 tooth runs quieter than my 6 tooth in my bit

Spacing isn't your only issue. You also have to take pitch differences of the gears into account. If the two gears have different pitches (angle of contact), the gears won't mesh properly and they bind.
